It was obviously a mistake to ask Jonathan Martin to start his rookie season. The guy at PFW was probably right, he is destined to be a swingman. A backup at best.

Whatever, the answer is to turn this glaring weakness into a strength. Sign a Sebastian Vollmer and develop a guy with the size and athletic ability to play NFL OT like a Reid Fragel or Jeff Adams.

For that matter Chandler Burden could probably have played better than Martin did last year. He is far more athletic and played LT in college as well.

I do like Wes Bunting but these two reports are outweighed heavily by the likes of Draft Central, Draft Countdown, Draft Tek, Kiper and McShea, etc. Neither said he was 5-6th round potential they stated he would be over drafted. The Dolphins got him in the second and got value for the pick at the time.

It's still far to early to be thinking about trading a guy that started all 16 games in his rookie year. He did struggle early on the right side, which is where the numbers against him piled up but after switching to LT, he played a lot better. This doesn't stop me from agreeing that I would love to sign Vollmer for the right side but Martin needs another year at LT before you can start looking to replace him. Also, there is no indication from the coaching staff that they were/are unhappy with his development.
