I think he was worth the 6 mil. I guess he did not want to play here anymore...

I would think that Ireland was willing to pay that amount as he is worth it. That sounds like a lot of $$$...but it is average in todays market.

Every year the bar is set and the agents go to town to make sure Free Agents are overpaid to take advantage of the new CBA. I'm worried about our current position at CB for sure! We have no solid options to start as a #1 or #2. Marshall may have been paid starter money for an average CB, but he is nothing special in my eyes. More like a stop gap type player until the team can find two better CB's. While I don't think he is very good, he is now our best CB. Sean Smith was better than him and most on here seem to think that we are better off with Marhsall and Patterson over Smith & Marshall. I only expect a couple CB's in the league to play like a shutdown CB that can truly take a guy out of the game that could have changed the game in the other teams favor. I think Sean was a tier 2 type guy... Shows flashes of great games, best suited vs bigger physical WR's, man corner with good skills, but has games where he looks like the other guys that you did not even want to see the field. But in the end with the right system you can take those guys and limit their negative scenarios. I think Marshall is a tier 3 guy and that is not horrible as my scale goes to tier 5.

We just have to get lucky with a good opportunity to grab a CB in the first or get real lucky in the later rounds with a couple good CB's.

Smith won't hit/tackle guys, even worse, he just can't make plays down field and make interceptions. That is what you pay for. Games are decided on tunrovers and he simply doesn't produce there. How many chances did he have last year to make a play and turn a game for us? His ridiculous lapses on deep balls is beyond infuriating, too.

Dude, I don't like the job Ireland has done here either but this is a new league year and hopefully he is not finished. I will withhold blasting him until a few games into this season if it turns out that we are not doing well. He has some money left for FAs and a bunch of draft picks to fill these holes. Let's see what he does. I do like addition by subtraction though with this team after all these players have taken us to the height of mediocrity, so why not exchange them for others.

Watch Indy game tap and you'll change your mind!
    Ding, ding, ding.

Nolan Carroll isn't a good cornerback but at least he is CHEAP. I'd rather have a bad player who is cheap than a bad player who is making 6 million dollars a year.
Me say come, Mister Fisher man, show me da contract
Daylight come and Jake Long go home

An' it's six mil, seven mil, eight mil bunch
Daylight come and Jake Long go home

I can't believe this thread is as long as the Bennett visits thread and that one is almost a half an hour older.

3 years 18 million dollars. 6 per year. How the F did we not match or offer a better deal? Thats so cheap for Sean! Wow!

I'm done with Ireland. This is the last straw. 6 million a year is beyond reasonable for Sean Smith.

You're all going to regret letting Smith walk. He is a good player and 6 million for him is not unreasonable at all. I would've paid him 7 if we had to.
You are on crack. Probably on Sean Smith's azz crack.
