Can someone explain to me the disadvantage of using the transitional tag?

There must be one because we never use it. Why not slap it on a guy like Wade to keep your options open. I'm not saying we pay what the Texans pay, but why not use it?

because you have to pay him either the average between the top 10 players at his position or 120% of his salary last year, whichever is higher

that would put him around 6 mil for one year....waaaaaaay over priced
