HENNE, OFFENSE STRONG IN WIN
The 7:30PM preseason game against the Jaguars didn't kick off until 9:20PM due to severe storms in the Jacksonville area. If what we saw tonight from the Dolphins starting offense was a sign of things to come this season, we could be in for a very special season. After a rough outing last week, the starting offense rolled over the Jaguars with ease. The Dolphins first drive though wasn't pretty after starting inside the five yard line following a Jaguars punt. After three offensive plays, including a Chad Henne sack, Brandon Fields for the second straight week saw one of his punts get blocked. This led to a quick Jacksonville 2-0 lead. Things picked up for the Dolphins on the free kick following the safety, as Jason Allen stripped the ball, which was recovered by Tyrone Culver. With the ball now on the Jacksonville 40 yard line, Miami's offense started to shine. A nine play drive ended in a 24 yard field goal by Pro Bowl kicker Dan Carpenter as Miami pulled ahead 3-2. Jackonsville would drive down the field on their next possession as they took a 9-3 lead on a David Garrard touchdown pass. On the Dolphins next two possessions, Chad Henne would lead the team down the field and connect on two touchdown passes to Anthony Fasano. The first of which went 55 yards and was set up by a tremendous block by Brandon Marshall. Henne finished the night 11 of 14 for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Marshall, who dropped two last week came up big tonight as he finished with 4 receptions for 65 yards. Marshall's biggest reception of the night was when Chad Pennington made his preseason debut and connected on a 37 yard pass with the Pro Bowl receiver. Pennington was nearly perfect on his only drive as he finished the game 3 of 4 for 54 yards and a touchdown pass to running back Ronnie Brown. The Dolphins offense in the first half looked great and they entered halftime with a 24-12 lead. The Dolphins didn't do much in the second half, as they managed to hold the Jaguars off and escape with a 27-26 win. Overall it was a great night for the offense, it it is very clear the defense still needs work, especially in the secondary. They gave up way to many big plays. The only major concern though the Dolphins have at this point is the status of cornerback Vontae Davis who left the game in the first half with a chest injury. No word yet on if the injury is serious or not. TELL US WHAT YOU THINK IN THE FINHEAVEN FORUMS!
