Porter and Brown Make Pro Bowl

No Respect: Pennington and others get snubbed

                 ______________________________________

                                           Favre gets in on reputation

        Joey

Joey Porter and Ronnie Brown are the only two Miami Dolphins to make the Pro Bowl. Announcements came today and for the most part Miami got the cold shoulder from their peers. congratulations to Ronnie and Joey for their outstanding year and we are very proud to have you represent us this year. But noticabel absent was Quarterback Chad Pennington and Rookie Left Tackle Jake Long. Those omissions have caused an outcry amoung Fin fans everywhere especially since division rival NY Jets placed a league leading seven players to the roster even though they are tied with Miami and New England for the division lead, and several of their selected players are making it on reputation and not results.  Of particluar note is Brett Favre who is ranked 15th in QB rating at 86.5 and who leads the league in interceptions with 17. This compared with Chad Pennington who is 4th in the league in QB rating and leads the league in the fewest interceptions. Pennington also has thrown for more yards. How the hell does htat make sense? There are other choices certainly deserving of consideration who I could not complain about but this is an example of the NFL once again dishing out a heavy dose of disrespect to Miami while contiinuing their mindless idol worship of Brett Favre. Favre is a legend and he has had a great career but this Pro Bowl selection makes no sense on any level as Favre has been a mediocre quarterback at best, and his interceptions are a huge negative. It appears that a few highlight throws, several lucky ones, are all it takes to be considerd the best in the NFL. This is just a bad selection and I think it makes the process look like a sentimental popularity contest versus selections based on actual results.

Additionally, the Jets placed two players from the offensive line even though they have given up more sacks than the Dolphins and just have not been dominant at all. This does not take away from the deserving placement of Thomas Jones and Leon Washington who both deserved their appointment as well as Kris Jenkins. I congratulate those players and they earned their trip to Hawaii and are amoung the league elite.

Other noteable Dolphins that deserved consideration:

  Dan Carpenter K

   Justin Smiley G

Carpenter has been as good as anyone on his FGs and Smiley was dominant prior to breaking his leg a couple of weeks ago. A great many of those big wildcat plays ran right behind him and the team has felt his loss more than anyone.

Although we are not getting the respect we deserve we still have a chance to make a statement. The Miami Dolphins can prove themselves on the field and win the division by taking the next two games. I can think of a better way to shove it all back in the face of the rest of this league then to do just that. Especially since it would provide a deciding victory in NY to make it all happen. If people dont give you respect sometimes you just have to go out and take it.
