Despite early reports, Vontae Davis not arrested PDF Print E-mail

POLICE LOOKING INTO INCIDENT

 Vontae Davis

Early Tuesday, a report from The Daily Illini claimed that Vontae Davis, the rookie cornerback for the Miami Dolphins, was arrested in Champaign, Illinois on June 9th. While the police report does indicate that "Vontae Ottis Davis" was given a notice to appear in court, it appears now that the Dolphins cornerback was not involved in the incident.

The Dolphins and Davis have made public statements indicating that Davis was in fact in Miami on the day of the alleged incident for OTA days and it was impossible for him to be in Illinois. Davis told the media that shortly before he left Illinois to go pro that his wallet was stolen. It seems very likely that the person who was pulled over in Illinois claiming to be Vontae Davis was the person who stole his wallet.

The Champaign Police Department is investigating the incident and plans on making a public statement later today or Thursday.
