Sources: Dolphins Would Like To Trade Thigpen Before Draft PDF Print E-mail
Written by Josh Evans

THIGPEN ON THE TRADE BLOCK

 Tyler Thigpen

For what has seemed like ages since the last time this happened, perhaps the deepest position on the Dolphins is at quarterback. The Dolphins have a promising young starter in third year player Chad Henne and have plenty of depth behind him. The Dolphins traded a 5th round pick last September to Kansas City for quarterback Tyler Thigpen, who had a successful 2008 season with the Chiefs as their starter. Just one month ago, the Dolphins re-signed Chad Pennington, who was the architect of the 2008 AFC East Championship season and Comeback Player Of The Year. In addition to those three, Miami also spent a 2nd round pick in the 2009 draft on West Virginia star quarterback Pat White.

So, with four quarterbacks already on the team, and with the rumored draft interest in Fordham quarterback John Skelton, it only makes sense for the Dolphins to try and move a quarterback or two for compensation. It appears the Dolphins might be on the verge of just that as sources have told Pro Football Weekly that the Dolphins are hoping to trade Thigpen before this year's draft begins.

While the Dolphins spent a 5th round pick to acquire the veteran quarterback who played college football at Coastal Carolina, the asking price will likely be at least a 4th round pick. Prior to the start of free agency there were rampant rumors that Buffalo Bills new head coach Chan Gailey was interested in possibly reuniting with Thigpen. However, a division trade seems unlikely and the compensation in a division rival trade would likely be for more than what other teams could have him for.

If Thigpen is traded before the start of the draft, or during the draft, expect Miami to at least get a 4th round selection in return.
