Edds Out For Year; Dolphins Sign Johnson PDF Print E-mail
Written by Josh Evans

EDDS SUFFERS TORN ACL, REPLACEMENT SIGNED

Micha Johnson

Before training camp even started, the Dolphins lost projected starting defensive end Phillip Merling for the year with a torn Achilles' tendon. With first round draft pick Jared Odrick moving up to the starting position, the team acted fast to find depth along the line as they signed veterans Marques Douglas, Montavious Stanley, and Charles Grant. The Dolphins on Tuesday found themselves scrambling to find new depth at inside linebacker as promising rookie A.J. Edds was lost for the season due to a torn ACL.

While Edds was not expected to be a starter this year, he was being counted on as a strong contributer in third down packages and on special teams. The team did not waste any time as they signed undrafted rookie linebacker Micah Johnson. The 6-1, 262 pound Johnson will compete for a roster spot behind starters Karlos Dansby and Channing Crowder.
