DOLPHINS WIN COIN FLIP WITH PANTHERS, PICK 8TH

Coin Flip

While many people were getting ready for work or still sleeping on Friday morning at 7:30AM, the Dolphins and Panthers finally conducted the long awaited coin flip that decided who picked #8 and #9. The reason for the coin flip was because both the Dolphins and Panthers finished with the same record and the same strength of schedule. Since the Dolphins and Panthers are in different conferences, the division record and conference record tiebreakers does not apply to both team. The last tiebreaker is the old fashioned flipping of a coin.

There was no "calling it in the air" as the coin was specially made with one side having the Dolphins logo and the other side having the Panthers logo. If you wish to watch the video of the coin flip, click the link at the bottom of this story. Since the Dolphins won the toss, the franchise gets to keep the ceremonial coin. The flip of the coin not only decided what pick the Dolphins have in the first round, but also set in stone the picks the team has in the 2nd and 3rd round. Miami will pick 42nd overall in the 2nd round and 73rd in the 3rd round. The exact pick in rounds 4-7 will officially be determined when the league releases compensatory picks at the end of March.
