RICKY SIGNS EXTENSION, WILL RETIRE AFTER 2010 Ricky Williams retired from the Dolphins prior to the start of the 2004 NFL season. Now, Ricky plans on retiring from the Dolphins yet again, this time after the 2010 NFL season. The running back who had one of the best NFL seasons for a running back in 2002 is nearing the end of a controversial career. At the peak of his career, and only 28 years old, Ricky walked away from the game on the eve of Training Camp in 2004 after numerous failed drug tests for marijuana. After missing the entire 2004 season, he decided to return to the NFL and played in 12 games during the 2005 season following a four game suspension. Just when things looked like they were back on track for Ricky, he was suspended for the entire 2006 season for a failed drug test, that was reportedly for a yoga supplement. The suspension actually carried well into the 2007 season and he made his first appearance in late Novemeber on Monday Night Football in Pittsburgh. He carried the ball six times before suffering a season ending torn chest muscle. Since then however, things seem to be back on track as he played all 16 games in 2008. Here we are now, in August of 2009 and Ricky Williams is preparing for another NFL season with the Dolphins. It was a contract year for him, but he and Bill Parcells got together during the offseason and hammered at a new one year contract extension that will keep Ricky in Miami through the end of the 2010 season. Ricky has also expressed to the Dolphins and the media that he plans to retire for good following the 2010 season at the age of 33. TELL US WHAT YOU THINK IN THE FINHEAVEN FORUMS! |
