Dolphins Destroy Raiders As Sparano's Seat Starts To Cool PDF Print E-mail

DOLPHINS BLOWOUT FOURTH TEAM IN FIVE WEEKS

Dolphins 34 Raiders 14

The Dolphins are back to their winning ways with yet another blowout victory, this time destroying the Oakland Raiders 34-14 to improve to 4-8 on the season. After starting the season off 0-7, the Dolphins have won four of their past five games with the only loss coming on the road in Dallas on Thanksgiving where they lost by one point on a last second field goal. The other four games, which were wins, have all come in convincing blowout fashion. They beat the Chiefs by 28 points, the Redskins by 11 points, the Bills by 27 points and now the Raiders by 20 points. In fact today's game on paper looks much closer than it actually was as the Raiders scored two garbage time touchdowns late in the 4th quarter.

The Raiders were never in the game, even after Miami's offense started a little slow only scoring 6 points on their first two drives. The Dolphins opened the flood gates in the second quarter when quarterback Matt Moore hit Davone Bess for a 12 yard touchdown to put the Dolphins lead at 13-0, a lead which the Dolphins would take into halftime.

The Dolphins started the second half just as they ended the first half, on fire. Rookie Clyde Gates took the second half's opening kickoff 77 yards to the Raiders 25 yard line. Three plays later, Reggie Bush found the endzone on a one yard run. It was Bush's 5th rushing touchdown of the season and gave the Dolphins a 20-0 lead early in the 3rd quarter. The Dolphins were not done as later in the 3rd quarter, they scored two touchdowns in just three plays. After Moore rushed for a 6 yard touchdown, linebacker Kevin Burnett picked off Raiders' quarterback Carson Palmer and returned the interception 34 yards for a touchdown. Those two quick touchdowns pushed the Dolphins to a 34-0 lead.

While the defense dominated and the offense was firing on all cylinders, the Raiders were able to punch in two garbage time touchdowns late in the 4th quarter. Palmer connected with receiver TJ Houshmandzadeh for a 40 yard touchdown and Darrius Heyward-Bey for a 3 yard touchdown.

Bush had 100 yards on 22 carries and had his second 100 yard rushing day of the season. Bush also now has 667 yards rushing on the season and is now a new career single season high. Today he passed his former career high of 581 yards he had with the New Orleans Saints back in 2007. If Bush averages just over 83 yards rushing over the last four games he would earn his first 1,000 yard rushing season. Also, with five rushing touchdowns, he is just one touchdown away from tying his career high single season six touchdowns he had in his rookie season with the Saints.

The Dolphins are now 4-8 and welcome the Philadelphia Eagles to town next week, before heading up to Buffalo to take on the Bills. On paper, and with how well the Dolphins have been playing and how bad the Eagles and Bills have been playing it is very realistic to think the Dolphins can win their next two games to improve their record to 6-8. It also realistic to think after how this team has steamrolled the majority of the competition the last five weeks that the next two games could also be won by double digits.

What looked like a foregone conclusion just over a month ago is now questionable at best. Will the Dolphins fire head coach Tony Sparano at the end of the season? The way the team is playing right now and how much the players respect and fight for him, it is not out of the question that Sparano will be walking the Dolphins sideline in 2012. However, we can not ignore the 0-7 start which is why owner Stephen Ross has a very difficult decision early next month. How this team plays and the outcome of the final four games will likely go a long way in determining Sparano's future. What we do know today though, is that Sparano's seat seems to be cooling every week.

Enjoy the win Dolfans!

DOLPHINS DESTROY BUFFALO BILLS 35-8

Dolphins 35 Bills 8

The Dolphins are officially hot. After starting the season 0-7, the team has rolled off three consecutive blowout wins, with the most recent victim, the Buffalo Bills. After going into Kansas City and knocking off the hot Chiefs 31-3, they came home last week to beat the Washington Redskins 20-9 and today hammered the Bills 35-8.

Dolphins Quarterback Matt Moore had yet another good day at the office and has put up some eye opening statistics the past three weeks. With his three touchdown passes today, Moore has 6 touchdowns and just 1 interception over the past three games. The $59 million "Franchise" quarterback for the Buffalo Bills has pretty much laughed his way to the bank with poor play since signing that big contract. Ryan Fitzpatrick was under distress all day as he had no touchdowns, 2 interceptions and was sacked twice by the Dolphins defense that has now put together 12 straight quarters without giving up a touchdown.

Even though the Bills turned in a day to forget, they did start the game off strong as they went 70 yards on 9 plays on the game's first drive that resulted in a 30 yard field goal for kicker Dave Rayner. The Bills wouldn't have many other positives after that as Dolphins went on a 28-0 run that included three Moore touchdown passes and a 5 yard touchdown run by Reggie Bush, his fourth rushing touchdown of the season. The Bills did manage to put three more points on the board before halftime as Rayner hit a 56 yard field goal as time expired to cut the Dolphins lead to 28-6.

For most of the second half, the Dolphins offense shut down, perhaps to not embarrass the Bills too much. The Dolphins special teams did provide the highlight of the second half as safety Chris Clemons blocked a Brian Moorman punt in the 3rd quarter that was recovered by running back Lex Hilliard in the endzone for a touchdown that pushed the Dolphins lead to 35-6. The Bills only other points in the game came in the 4th quarter when rookie running back Daniel Thomas was tackled in the endzone by Kelvin Sheppard for a safety. The safety occured after the Dolphins defense kept the Bills out of the endzone after they had a 1st and goal from the two yard line.

There was talk a couple of weeks ago that the Dolphins put together their most complete game in years against the Chiefs. Well, forget that game, today's game was even more complete. In the past three weeks, the Dolphins have outscored their opponents 86-20. Quite an amazing turnaround after starting the season 0-7. Now, the Dolphins have to turnaround quickly as they travel to Dallas for a contest with the Cowboys this Thanksgiving Thursday. Four straight wins is the next goal for this team, and I wouldn't bet against the Dolphins at this point.

Enjoy the win Dolfans!

DOLPHINS WIN FIRST HOME GAME IN 364 DAYS

Dolphins 20 Redskins 9

The Miami Dolphins are officially on a winning streak as they won their second game in a row, and second of the season, as they defeated the visiting Washington Redskins 20-9. The game was not as easy or pretty as the Dolphins blowout win over the Kansas City Chiefs a week ago, but the Dolphins did just enough to put up a double digit victory. It was the Dolphins first home game win of the season, and their first home game win in the last 364 days. Talk about having a monkey off your back.

Matt Moore came back down to Earth a bit after having a career day last week, but still turned in a respectable day. Moore completed 20 of 29 passes, for 209 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. Reggie Bush also continued his streak of producing lately as he carried the ball 14 times for 47 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Bush also had 4 receptions for 4 yards. While Brandon Marshall couldn't find the endzone today, he had another good day catching seven balls for 98 yards. For those of you counting at home, that gives Marshall 53 receptions and 742 yards, and 2 touchdowns on the season. That puts Marshall on pace to break the Dolphins franchise reception record and close to breaking franchise receiving yards record. Hopefully Marshall can continue his beast work this season.

The defense also proved to be strong again today, not allowing a touchdown for the second straight week. The defense also did something twice today that they previously had only down four times all season, and that was to force a turnover. Vontae Davis intercepted Washinton quarterback Rex Grossman in the second quarter and Karlos Dansby intercepted Grossman when the Redskins had a 1st and goal in the 4th quarter. The defense also sacked Grossman three times including one by Dolphins' all time sack leader Jason Taylor. It was Taylor's third of the season.

So now the Dolphins have won two straight and host the suddenly floundering Buffalo Bills. The idea that the Dolphins could be 3-7 going into the Thanksgiving game against the Dallas Cowboys seemed ridiculous a few weeks ago, not it seems like it has an extremely good chance of happening. Sure this likely ends all the Andrew Luck talk in South Florida, but winning feels good and helps build this team's confidence for the future. Plus, there are a lot of good quarterbacks that will be available in next year's draft. Also, who know? With Luck destined for Indianapolis, perhaps hall of fame quarterback Peyton Manning could be leading this offense.

Enjoy the win Dolfans!
