I give Golden credit with his Mr Clean persona for steering them through the sanctions and decent recruiting considering what was hanging over them . As far as game day coaching and choosing assistants i agree he hasn't been very good.

We better start praying to raptor jesus that Ryan Williams is ready to go opening day. Not sure what the odds are there. If he cant go, if I were Golden Id just say **** it and let Kaaya try figure it out.

i'm with you. If Kaaya has the goods he looks like our best bet for the long term.
Williams would have been ok and a better option than Heaps but definitely not a world beater from what i've seen of him.
Not going to happen as Cane said Golden likes his upperclassmen.

here's Al on WQAM this AM talking about the QB situation and other stuff

    Question for Cane fans:

If Golden is indeed canned after this season, who do you think should be on your AD's short list to be the next head coach?
    Insert pithy saying here.

Jimmy Johnson comes out of retirement for one more ring

In truth if Golden wins 8 games and goes to another bowl he's not going anywhere.

A realistic, right-man-for-the-job answer would be Pat Fitzgerald currently at Northwestern. I've been on that bandwagon for years now.

Problem with Fitzgerald is that those close to him say he's a Northwestern "lifer." With our administration, it's tough to figure out how to get him to Miami. So a change needs to be made inside the administration and you need a BOT pushing for Fitzgerald as well.

Northwestern and Miami are very similar schools when you compare the strict academic standards. Northwestern is a better degree overall than Miami, but it doesn't stop Miami from being very strict. So Fitzgerald already knows how to deal with those strict standards because of where he comes from. Northwestern isn't some football powerhouse but Fitzgerald seems to be a guy who understands how to get the most of the players that he puts on that football team. He could do wonders at a place like Miami who has the history and the recruiting bed that they have.

If you want a big name I would try to get Mike Singletary. If you want a fresh start then I would go with a young coach, I like Zac Taylor the Dolphins QB coach. He was born in 83 so he is very young, he knows QBs and he coach TEs in college he also knows offenses.

This team will win 8 or 9 games so the talk of Golden leaving is premature . i would not be surprised if they start off by upsetting Louisville. Lots of playmakers and the D has to be better than last year.

Losing more than 2 game this season will be unacceptable, I will be ok with 3 but if we lose 3 then a coordinator would have to go but anything more then 2-3 game we would have to do something because this schedule to me is very favorable to a great season. If you say 8-9 wins, what 4-3 loses would you be ok with? I am looking a FSU as an acceptable lose and I will give then a mistake game where they will have some mental farts and lose the game, maybe Nebraska. That is it for me. We cannot lose to weak teams. What is your call on the schedule?
