Fortunately for WoW they haven't had a whole lot of competetion in their department since they released. I still have my fingers crossed for Conan and/or Warhammer.

Yea I never got around to actually getting this although always wanted to try it. I don't really have the time to waste I guess usually.

i disagree. there's been a ton of would-be WoW killers over the years. All killed. Let's see.

    - EQ2
    - Tabula Rasa
    - Guildwars
    - Vanguard
    - Auto Assault
    - D&D Online
    - Lord or the Ring Online

They've had lots of competition, they've just been better at what people want. Regular updates, good expansions, and easy to play.

you can play wow casually and with restraint...the regular game itself is cheap nowadays (w/o the expansion) and your first month is free...it's worth checking out honestly...have fun patching tho

i have played....eq2, guildwars, d&D, and lord of the rings....also a couple dudes i know went back to star wars galaxies, so i played that for 1 night..

wow's gameplay is what makes it so great imo....just the mechanics of everything, it feels more like you are really 'fighting' stuff, than those other mmo's.....i don't know what it is.

I played the free week demo, but didn't go beyond that because I didn't think I'd have enough time to play and get my money's worth. I know if I would have had time though, that game would have engulfed my life, it had all the elements there to do so.

Its only as time consuming as you want it to be, its just very easy to make it heavy on time consumption

As for Conan and War, I dont see either of them approaching anything like WoWs sucess.
