Henne and White may both be good, but are they a good pair as a #1 and #2?

Look ahead to the 2010-2011 season for a moment. Pennington has moved on to a team that will give him a shot at starting. Sparano has been proven to be good to his word and Chad Henne and Pat White are competing for the QB job. One of them wins the job, I don't care which.

Henne and White are completely different style QBs - Henne is right-handed, big, pretty immobile and has a gun for an arm. White is left-handed, small, very mobile and has a decent, but not great arm. Which means having Henne and White as #1 and #2 presents problems for everyone else in the offense. If whoever the #1 is goes down, the offensive sets will have to change to play to the strengths of the other guy. Any rollouts in the playbook go the other direction for a righty versus a lefty. The routes that are run will change to play to the QB's differing strengths. Other than Seattle, I can't think of a stronger contrast between the strengths of the starter and his potential backup. And since Seattle picked #4 overall, I'm not sure how well that worked out for them when Hasselbeck went down.

Not saying it's impossible to work around, but it presents challenges.

It will be a challenge, but these guys will pick it up. I do think Henne will be the eventual stater, but I wouldn't sleep on White. One thing about White is he looks to pass first and run if he has to. I think this alone will give him the ability to become more of a drop back and pass QB.

Either way, I think we are in a very good situation QB wise. Henne looks good so far and White is good insurance as well as a very good Wildcat fit.

i'm watching NFLN and they're showing Path to the Draft,a recap of the draft, and Mayock&Co. like Pat White and feel he's going to be a good pro QB,and think we're in a good situation with Henne&White, both are young&talented, and they also feel White has a good arm,and has a nice touch on his passes, and where he places the ball...so you guys take it for whatever y'all want to...

they will be the best qb tandem in the league for years to come, you have henne for the conventional offense and white for the wildcat, and they both have cannons attached to there arms, and good awareness and to have an added wrinkle henne qb, white at wr, picture it now reverse give it to white, henne down the sidelines, white to henne td.

Henne is the better QB of the two and White is the better athlete of the two i think Henne will be the starter by mid season when Pennington goes down with an injury

I tend to think that Henne will be #1, White #2 and Penne will be the emergency QB. IMO they are past needeing a manager (Penne) and are looking to go downfield more which both Henne and White can do. Stretching out the field to open the run and the upgrade to the Wildcat with White can make this an offense that poses a week of sleepless night for opposing defenses.

In a couple years there could be an 18 game regular season, using two active QBs interchangeably throughout the season would give less wear and tear for playoff runs. I'd like to hope Henne is the starter by 1010 season but White takes several snaps each game.

The NFL has changed toward the two back system usually a banger with a slasher why not at QB as well. Henne would get the majority of snaps with White coming in as a change of offense QB with a 65/35 split and I'm not just talking Wildcat plays.
