Miami Dolphins: Historical kings of the AFC East

The AFC East has existed since the 1970 AFL merger.

The Colts moved out of the division in 2002.

So, from 1970 through 2001 (including the two strike years), it was possible for the other four teams to finish anywhere from first to fifth. From 2002 to 2008, it was possible to finish from first to fourth.

Miami Dolphins: 13 first-place finishes. Average finish of 2.16
New York Jets: 2 first-place finishes. Average finish of 3.38.
New England Patriots: 10 first-place finishes. Average finish of 2.79.
Buffalo Bills: 7 first-place finishes. Average finish of 3.08.

Actually the dolphins have 14 first place finishes when you include the strike shortened season in 1982 when the fish went 7-2 to win the division.

The Dolphins went to the super bowl that year and shutout that pansy team in my signature in the AFC Championship.

Not to be the negative guy, but let's look at the past 10 seasons...or really 5. Having a strong history is awesome, but I would rather have a strong present.

That is really crazy when ya consider out of the entire AFC east (including the colts) the only one of the teams that has a winning record vs us is the jets. And to be honest none of the rest are even close.

    Right, that is all irrelevant.

What's relevant is we're the defending champions now and next year we've gotta do it again.

AGAIN, 1982 doesn't count as they used the standings based on conference NOT division.
