House Votes to Strip Funding for ACORN

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,551533,00.html

WASHINGTON House Republicans succeeded Thursday in eliminating federal funding to ACORN, the community organizing group that has come under heavy fire in the wake of damaging undercover videos that purport to show counselors giving advice on tax fraud to a "pimp" and "prostitute."

This is probably the most productive and positive thing accomplished in congress this year. That makes me sad.

I could be wrong Nate, I have no idea what they get on a yearly basis, but didn't they get 1 or 2 billion from the stimulus?

I laughed when Ann Coulter talked about how Gibson looked down his nose when he asked Palin about the Bush Doctrine in a gottcha moment.

My money says a tag team of Sarah Palin and Ann Coulter agaisnt Charlie Gibson and Keith Olbyturd would be a librool news media *** whoopin.

Yeah, what's a few million here, a few million there.

I don't care if it was a $1k, they are thieves. I'll bet if the IRS audited Bertha Lewis they would find enough to throw her under the jail house and most of the rest.

3411... these are quotes I posted in the first ACORN thread below... i figured this was more efficient than retyping it all...

Oh wow... I never knew how crippling our funding was for ACORN... 500,000 workers/volunteers divided into $53,000,000.00...equals $106 a person... divided by 15 years... means $7 per ACORN functionary... granted, I am sure they have grown exponentially (since we are all getting poorer) but I thought they were much, much more important and better funded than this... they are a nothing entity when it comes to tax dollars...
This really makes me think that this is a showboat decision to just make this little mess go away... it just seems irrelevant and distracting now that I see numbers... heck, for the amount of functionaries they bost, it wouldn't matter that much if they got all of the money last year alone... $100 a person? For all the work they did/do? Even with some bad apples and some definite problems... it just seems trivial now...
Okay... now I have read a bit more... Fox is, as usual, being extremely misleading with their reporting... I thought so... It was beyond believable to me that the stimulus earmarked 1% of total funds to a community building organization...

There is $8.5 billion for structures like ACORN to bid on.... hundreds of different groups have bid, ACORN does not interact with any projects being funded by $7.5 billion of the $8.5 billion in funding... the other monies? I could find no bidding record... so I don't know... still grossly inflated by you having been given false or misleading numbers...
The census? ACORN was one of, get this, 3000 groups being asked to promote job openings for census workers... they were never asked or authorized to conduct the census, and now they have been unasked to work with thousands of other entities to find people who want to do it... they were in a limited partnership, now they are not... again, they seem increasingly irrelevant to me... I just think it is a gas on the fire opportunity for the conservative talk circuit, and a senate responding to the fervor...
