The difference between Big Government Dems and the Big Government GOP = 32 billion.

GOP Budget Chairman Paul Ryan's committee released its official spending targets for the rest of the 2011 fiscal year, indicating Republicans plan to cut $58 billion in non-security funding, but when their overall spending target is compared to current spending levels for that same time frame, the cuts amount to $32 billion.

Either way, the proposed House Republicans' cuts fall short of the House GOP's campaign pledge to cut at least $100 billion in non-security federal spending "in the first year alone."

The pressure is from their constituents are too much for them to overcome. On one side you have young people who want jobs that low tax rates may attract, and public works which their employers may take part in. On the other side you have the older generation's entitlements and skyrocketing medical costs. If you raise taxes you're damned; if you cut spending, you're equally damned.

This is half the reason I think Senators should be appointed by the governors of the states and not elected. They are held hostage to democracy and special interests, forced to try and appease everyone, and end up putting off the measures necessary to fix our budget. Instead of focusing on what's best for their state and the Republic, they focus on what the people want, which is not always what's best for our country. The checks and balances are out of whack in this country and it paralyzes us.

It's not surprising, rhetoric on the campaign trail never match actual performance, but Americans will forget by election time and we go thru the same ol, same ol all over again..
