McConnell: No real deficit deal until Obama is gone

The Senate's top Republican said Tuesday that he did not see a way for Republicans and Democrats to come to agreement on meaningful deficit reduction as long as President Obama remains in office.

"After years of discussions and months of negotiations, I have little question that as long as this president is in the Oval Office, a real solution is probably unattainable," Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said in remarks on the Senate floor.

The remarks come as negotiations between Republicans and Democrats intensify on long-term deficit reduction ahead of a looming deadline on how much the United States can legally borrow.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and many economists have warned of economic catastrophe if the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling is not raised before August 2.

And lawmakers from both parties want to use the threat of that deadline to work out a broader package on long-term deficit reduction. Republicans are looking to cut trillions of dollars in federal spending, while Democrats are pushing for a more "balanced approach," which would include both spending cuts and higher revenue to the government.

More partisan bullsh*t. These clowns don't care about the citizen. If they did, something would have been worked out months ago...

Agreed, Obama has been one of more moderate Presidents in history. He has reached across the aisle multiple times to just get **** thrown in his face..The more he gives the more they try and get rid of him. Democrats never treated Bush like. The American public did themselves wrong by giving house and senate seats back to the republicans. All they want is to sabotage Obama. Bush was so bad that if Obama succeeded the Republicans would have no life.

I agree completely. It seems that ever since the elections last year, the only plan by the Republicans has been to impede whatever Obama tries to do. The Democrats were pretty bad too when Bush was in office, but I seriously don't remember it being this bad. Political agenda bullsh*t is killing this country...

If combined with cuts to things like military, then absolutely yes. The fact that you even bring up this scenario is telling. Politics here are a joke. It isn't about the people. It hasn't been for decades. When you have people more concerned with where Obama was born and calling him a socialist than about what he is actually doing, then you know the country is in trouble. The Tea Party started out as a grassroots movement to restore some semblance of sanity to the government, but even that got hijacked by partisan retards. It really does look like the U.S. is in for some dark days sooner rather than later...

Need I remind people that the sole reason Americans put the Pubs back in charge in the House...and darn near the Senate, was to stop Obama from implementing his policies with a rubber stamp from a Dem Congress. So these things are as I would expect from that. Not that I agree with all the bickering, but it is a fight of ideologies that is going on here.

Players come and go, but I will always be a Miami Dolphins Fan first and foremost.

Well Mickey the current picks from the GOP candidates will continue the deficits as well. Except one. It's amazing to me to see these 2 parties all come up with crappy ideas. None of them have a solution. We're screwed. Might as well get drunk.

That isn't the sole reason, or the reason at all. The reason was the unemployment figures and economic growth. If the unemployment rate was under five percent and GDP was growing, Democrats gain seats.
