Relief for cap -- and Mare
By guaranteeing part of kicker Olindo Mare's contract, Miami saves about $500,000 -- money that could be used to sign a player in the event of an injury.

LOOKING AHEAD
According to league and NFL Players Association sources, the Dolphins are committed to more than $90 million in contracts for next season. That doesn't include likely contract tenders for players such as restricted free agents Adewale Ogunleye, Travis Minor, Sage Rosenfels and Morlon Greenwood.
Between incentives and the tenders for restricted free agents and exclusive-rights players, the Dolphins are expected to be about $17 million over the cap going into the offseason.
$90 less 79 = $11 million.
