Rand Paul introduces measure forcing Senate to read bills

I got it this morning," Paul said Friday, just before the Senate approved a massive bill extending highway funding, federal flood insurance and low student loans rates.

"Not one member of the Senate will read this bill before we vote on it," he added.

    What a novel concept.

I agree with Rand Paul. The problem is most of them probably cannot read.
In addition to reading them, they should be required to work 48 weeks a year, 40 hours a week.

Senators/Shysters that write these 600 page bills share that opinion.

I see nothing wrong with our lawmakers familiarizing themselves with every stipulation, obtuse angle, rudiment and likely folded-in boondoggle of every bill prior to signing it. You know if any of these bozos were signing a detailed real estate, divorce or whatever contract or agreement, they would be going over it with a fine tooth comb instead of rubber stamping it.

But then again, relatedly I also endorse the proposal of one of the greatest men alive, Warren Buffet on how to reduce the suffocating deficit that most of them merely pay lip service to:

"I could end the deficit in 5 minutes. You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election."

If they are forced to read it, I am sure that the language will be changed to make it easier to read. The way some of these bills are worded...tucking in the pork..and new taxes..it gives them plausible deny ability when they rubber stamp it..

I am still waiting for Mr Paul to reject his government funded health insurance (among other government funded perks).

It sounds quite noble to stand up and say 'hey, everybody read the bills'. But he knows that something like this will never pass so it is a hyperbolic action to appease his cheerleaders.

How about Mr Paul Jr steps up to the plate and forgoes all government funded benefits. He is against them after all. You know...socialism and all.
