Persefone: Spiritual Migration
Jerzy would be a natural serve and volley guy at his size and with his feel for the ball. But the returners are just too good overall, and Murray is one of the best there is. I think that's more of what it is than the courts and balls, though of course that doesn't help.
Saw that Edberg/Tsonga exhibition. Edberg is before my time but all class. I have all kinds of appreciation for that kind of tennis especially since I have hands of absolute stone. What I like is the contrast of styles. I remember watching Sampras when I was a kid and his matches were impressive but boring, especially if he was against another serve and volleyer. Just monotonous, like watching Simon vs. Monfils or something. The next few years look like they'll be lots of Murray vs. Djokovic and that's going to be similarly boring. They had one really amazing match last year somewhere on the Asian swing of the tour but mostly they just seem to sort of plop plop plop the ball back to each other and wait for an opening. It seems to bother Djokovic that people haven't particularly warmed to him despite the fact that he's much more affable than either Federer or Nadal. But you watch him and it's like... how can you root for a guy who has no weaknesses and gets to every ball?
I don't know. Maybe it's an Eastern European stereotype thing goin on. People see swedes, the Swiss and the Spanish and think nice guys. They see russian, Czechs or Serbs and they think tough Eastern European. Not sure
I love it.
That picture actually brings up an interesting question. I wonder what percentage of people who refer to this country as an Orwellian state or say it's becoming an Orwellian state or make signs like that referring to 1984 have, you know, actually read the book.
I'm betting 5%. 10%, tops.
More likely it's stuff like The Matrix, the Terminator franchise, Enemy of the State and Men in Black.
I thought about buying this shirt but it's too obscure, even for me.
