"I'll slit your throatneck."
I was once a normal kid
Till the Devil came down and flipped my lid
He gave me a switchblade and he gave me a muse
Then he vomited acid all over my shoes

The best boxer in the world can barely read. How does this happen? Dyslexia, maybe?

Speaking of boxers, not too many people know that Muhammad Ali was terribly dyslexic. I'm convinced one of the reasons he became a member of the Nation of Islam is because Elijah Muhammad put out his lectures on record and on the radio. Malcolm X was also a great a speaker.
When Ali himself went on the lecture circuit (first when he was banned for three years and then again after his retirement) he never read from a prepared text. He just couldn't. It had to be off the cuff. Most of his "poems" were actually written by his friend Bundini Brown (the dude with the crazy haircut who's always shouting at Ali's fights) -- who was so addicted to heroin he actually pawned one of Ali's title belts (the physical belt itself) to pay for heroin. Oddly enough, Brown was also Jewish, irrc. Which is appropos of nothing except that it's odd.
No need to listen. It's about what you'd imagine. Very uncomfortable.Originally Posted by TheWalrus

I read the other day that the reason an hour is sixty minutes -- rather than, say, a hundred -- is because 60 is easy to break into four chunks, which is about as high as a person in the time it was established was able to divide or multiple by (a quarter of an hour, etc). I think there's a similar system with English currency (pence vs pounds), but don't quote me on that, lol. Even in this country it used to be that small amounts of money were not divided into "cents" but into "bits", with eight bits being a dollar (deriving from the Spanish "piece of eight"). It was a shortcut around a lack of education in general.
2. Why do you have to believe there is an explanation aside from reality? Floyd Mayweather can no read because Floyd Mayweather is not very bright. When he was given the opportunity to learn to read for free as a child, he found it very difficult, and eventually gave up. While he does have plenty of resources available to him now, it does not require a great deal of wealth or resources to learn to read. He obviously has no interest in learning to read at this point or he would do so. He does not have to work. He could spend all day learning to read for as long as it took if he wished to. But, again, Im sure it is very difficult for him as he is not very intelligent.
3. The radio host has no business mocking Mayweather. Did anyone else notice that he repeatedly read the word "stripes" as "scripes"? Show your scripes.
