In your view, how is Mike Sherman's play calling so far?
IMO better than we have had in years. The formations are better, the philosophy is better and the play calls are better. There have been a few head scratchers but overall the staff as a whole is doing a decent job with what we have.
"Martining" things is no way to go through life.
Don't be a Martin.
I don't know...how do you evaluate his play calling when his hands are tied? Part of me feels he's too conservative (at least against Houston and the Jets) but then the other part of me is thinking how are you going to get the passing game going with only two receivers and a slow TE? We literally have no receiving threat on this team...we scare no one in the passing game. How can you play call with this roster of average and below average receivers? You can't even take advantage of the other teams 3rd and 4th CB when you have receivers that run awful routes and can't catch (Naanee and Armstrong).
If I were Sherman I'd be pulling my hair out in frustration...and now with Bush is hurt it could be even harder to call the plays. Thomas is the only RB on this team averaging less than 4 yards per carry and he's going to have to carry the load more so we don't get Bush hurt again cause Miller still doesn't know his blocking assignments or the play book. I'm frustrated and I'm not even the OC.
The red zone seems to be our friend this year. We just need to get there more often. A lot of that points to receiver execution. The running game is great and the play-action is awesome as a result. I have faith in this coaching staff. We'll be winners in time.
I dont think he has enough weapons to fully evaluate his scheme yet. Like a speed reciever or a pure pass catching TE.
I'll be hesitant to pass judgment on Sherman. The receiving corps is unbelievably thin at the moment. An actual #3 receiver would make a significant difference.
What was it Chan Gailey once said about trying to eat chicken sh*t?

Not sure I can evaluate it yet. He's got a handicapped roster to work with.
He took well calculated chances at he end of the game trying to throw deep. I love that play calling and he actually created the tying and winning oppurtunities for our rookie QB who is only building his confidence throughtout this process.
Well done considering whom he has to work with.
