    Romney's Latest Lie

[QUOTE]Over the weekend, Romney debuted an ad in Ohio showing cars being crushed as a narrator says Obama "sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China. Mitt Romney will fight for every American job."
In fact, Chrysler is retaining and expanding its Jeep production in North America, including in Ohio. Its profits have enabled it to separately consider expanding into China, the world's largest auto market.
Responding to the ad, Chrysler emphasized in a blog post that it has "no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China."
"They are inviting a false inference," says Kathleen Hall Jamieson, director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania and an expert on political advertising.
This is only the most recent in a stream of lies from Romney. Remember his contention that the President planned to "rob" Medicare of $716 billion when in fact the money would come from reduced payments to providers who were overcharging -- thereby extending the life of Medicare? (Ryan's plan includes the same $716 billion of savings but gets it from turning Medicare into a voucher and shifting rising health-care costs on to seniors.)
Remember Romney's claim that Obama removed the work requirement from the welfare law, when in fact Obama merely allowed governors to fashion harder or broader work requirements?
Recall Romney's assertion that he is not planning to give the rich a tax cut of almost $5 trillion, when in fact that's exactly what his budget plan does? Or that his budget will reduce the long-term budget deficit, when in fact his numbers don't add up?
And so on. "We're not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers," says Neil Newhouse, a Romney pollster.
There are two lessons here. First, lies financed by deep pockets are hard to refute, but they must be refuted. Otherwise, there is no accountability in our democracy. [QUOTE]

Before Romney even took the stage in Defiance, Ohio, to repeat the claim on Thursday night, Chrysler's public relations chief had released a blistering reply calling it an "unnecessary fantasy." That didn't deter Romney's team from running this ad over the weekend, telling reporters who called to ask how they could make such claims that it was technically true -- although Romney has never produced a plan for helping the auto industry.
And today, Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne -- the "Italians" mentioned by Romney -- sent a company letter to employees rebutting the idea as well. Marchionne noted that Jeep's factory workforce in the United States had grown from 4,700 in 2008 to 9,300. "I feel obliged to unambiguously restate our position: Jeep production will not be moved from the United States to China," Marchionne wrote.
That didn't stop Romney from releasing another radio ad in Ohio that not only repeats the Jeep claim, but drags General Motors into the fray as well. "Under President Obama, GM cut 15,000 American jobs, but they are planning to double the number of cars built in China which means 15,000 more jobs for China," says the ad, repeating the claim that Romney "will stand up for the auto industry." Like the Jeep claim in the first ad, the words twist reality; GM does want to double production in China -- to 5 million vehicles, which would require at least 15,000 workers. But so are most other automakers; China now ranks as the world's largest market for new cars and trucks, and success there means building there....

GM spokesman Greg Martin also responded to Romney's radio ad on Tuesday: "We've clearly entered some parallel universe during these last few days. No amount of campaign politics at its cynical worst will diminish our record of creating jobs in the U.S. and repatriating profits back to this country."

So let me get this straight: Romney makes bogus ad. Its so absurd that the leaders of Chrysler come out and call it a flat out lie. So the Romney campaign decides to double down and drag GM into this?

I wont even get into how patiently absurd it is to make a complete lie, be refuted, and play the victim by claiming its the opposition trying to distract people.

Before this started airing, i had thought Romney was comfortable with the situation. Hes walking away with Florida and its close in Ohio. This doubling down on something everyone sees as a complete lie shows desperation.

You got it wrong.....it is worse.
Romney lied at an event in Ohio, Chrysler comes froward and refutes it. Romney campaign doubles down on lie with an ad, Chrysler comes out again and Romney tripled down
with an additional ad and then GM stepped in.

    The original speech.

    Te response from Chrysler:
Let’s set the record straight: Jeep has no intention ofshifting production of its Jeep models out of North America toChina. It’s simply reviewing the opportunities to return Jeep output to China for the world’s largest auto market. U.S.Jeep assembly lines will continue to stay in operation. A carefuland unbiased reading of the Bloomberg take would have saved unnecessary fantasies and extravagant comments.

    The double down by Romney:

..and the subsequent counter by Chrysler

The triple down by Romney (radio ad):

    ...and now GM:
“We've clearly entered some parallel universe during these last few days,” GM spokesman Greg Martin said. “No amount of campaign politics at its cynical worst will diminish our record of creating jobs in the U.S. and repatriating profits back to this country.”
