Coal is absolutely terrible for the environment, but the only thing that is even close to creating the amount of electricity America needs is Nuclear.

Wind and Solar are no where close to making up the gap that eliminating coal would have.

I agree... but leaning on coal, etc. slows the R+D we need to be doing in other energies... coal has been fading for years... we were at like 500b metric tons in the first Bush year and, while we have CLIMBED in extraction since Obama's first year, we are currently under 200b metric tons... coal will rebound when technology allows boilers utilizing it as a fuel to not have such a crushing cost in environmental damage and public health...

That technology isn't very close. The efficiency of using coal and harnessing and maximizing that energy has been leveled out for awhile now. So don't expect a break through in that regard for awhile.

I agree, we will have to move away from coal. The best way to do so is for every American to reduce their Carbon footprint by a large margin.

Once people have rolling blackouts or have to pay an arm and a leg for electricity, they will definitely be conscious of that light on in the unoccupied room next to them.

Polls indicate a slight lead for Obama in both PA and OH.

Agreed. Great post. One reason I can't support the Green Party generally is their plan on energy is a bunch of woo woo nonsense that would crush the middle class on energy costs.

Nuclear is the way to go and it needs to be made easier to do. If Nevada wasn't an early primary Yucca Mountain would have been approved by now but as it everyone's seen Godzilla and THEM! just a few too many times and is freaked out about it. It makes me crazy to see people so worried about growing a third head they don't realize they've got a spot on their lung and their skin is slowly turning into a cancerous burlap sack.

I almost changed my mind at the eleventh hour, but I voted for Jill Stein.

I do agree that her position on energy is unrealistic, but I support more of her positions overall and some of them I strongly support.

I don't think either of the major candidates are terrible, I just prefer Jill Stein when it comes to policy.

I could not imagine not voting for one of the "Big Two" with the issue of the Supreme Court hanging over us as a nation...that's just me, though...
