Suggestion of Possible O-Line Change: Discuss

What about keeping Martin at LT, Incognito at LG, Pouncey at C.

The change would be bouncing Jerry at RT and moving Samuda to RG.

Why: It gets Garner off of the edge. Jerry faired okay last year at LT. Perhaps he would be a better fit at RT than Garner. Samuda I liked during the preseason was solid for a few snaps vs. the Colts. Maybe, Samuda could be a fit as a more athletic guard going into 2013.

Getting more athletic at guard should be a goal going into next season.

Jerry is way to slow and fat to play tackle IMO.

We'll get a fair assessment on Martin at LT over the next 4 games...could provide leverage in negotiations with Jake but considering Jake's history over the last 3 seasons with injuries it may be in our best interest to move on regardless. No sense in paying someone major cash if he can't finish the season (2nd time in 3 years).

I think we absolutely need to upgrade from Incognito, I like Samuda and I'm hoping he fills in at LG next year. We may have to keep Jerry at RG and then either sign a guy like Winston Justice in FA for the RT spot or draft a guy in the 3rd or later like David Quessenberry or Jeff Nady. I'd like to draft a Guard as well in the 4th round or later.

Offensive Linemen - You’re generally not trying to pound the ball on the ground in the West Coast Offense, so guys who can consistently blow defenders off the line aren’t necessary. Actually quicker, more mobile linemen are more ideal because of their ability to pull or get outside in a rolling pocket on plays designed to get the quarterback outside.

The zone blocking scheme, which Philbin coached for the last eight years in Green Bay and for four years at Iowa before that, instead places greater emphasis on speed and athleticism on the offensive line.

In a zone blocking scheme an offensive lineman is responsible for an area of the field instead of a specific man. The offensive line usually flows in the same direction – all five players moving left or right – and relies heavily on double-teams and cut-back blocks on defenders. Offensive linemen have more horizontal movements than just straight down-field.

Do any of our offensive lineman fit this profile?
    Long...NO
    Incognito..no
    Jerry......no
    Pouncey...yes
    Martin...maybe
    Garner...no
    Samuda...maybe

i was hoping john jerry might be the nate garner guy for next year [ the 6th man ] but i can not see that now we going to need 3 new starters for that to happen
agree richie has to go his on the floor more than on his feet , and @ $4m+ he has to go another year of o line rebuild to look forward to ,how many times is that?
