Interesting Michael Lombardi/Mike Mayock-Dolphins Defense is SLOW!

Listening to the Joe Rose interview w/ Lombardi today Mike gave some really good analysis of the Dolphins defense that was spot on. Simply put he and apparently Mayock noticed and completely agree that the Dolphins "Team" defense is slow. His insight explains why teams like the Patriots will usually own us and INTERESTEDLY why we don't generate much turnovers.

Probably not shocking, but when you hear the specifics it's so obvious and fascinating! Why spreading the field horizontally and vertically exposes it! Why foot speed matters etc

We have three pretty altletic linebackers in Dansby, Burnett and Misi..

Our Secondary is not slow either..Clemons is playing faster...so is Jones...There Cb on the other hand...they have ok speed...

I have to disagree we may have the "slowest" Lb-group in the entire league! Misi might be the slowest starting Lb in the game. He will get abused come sunday.
How many of those sweeps, screens etc(Oakland game, Tennessee game) were big gains because Dansby was too slow getting there? Or Misi got left in the Dust?)

As for the secondary we all know S.Smith is slow! The fastest player in the secondary maybe Jones... What happens when a team goes 4-wide? Wheres the speed then in our secondary?

It is painful to watch Kevin Burnett try to cover a TE and when he gets put on a slot it is over.. Offenses love him in coverage.. Misi and Dansby are just a step faster but constantly out of position ..not because of scheme but foot speed. Thier play at stopping Run is thier strength.

As for the safety and CB play they would have to be in the picture to be able to tell.

I agree with everything but the Jones part. He has decent speed but Clemons is one of the fastest safeties in the league. He doesn't play that fast but as for natural footspeed, Clemons is the fastest on the team.

Exactly! This is what Lombardi got into from and X's and O's stand point and what the patriots will expose. Teams that line up in I-form 2-wide, 2-TE are crazy and play completely to our strengths. I'm shocked more teams have exposed our Lb-Group especially Misi!

He maybe 40-yard dash-wise. But, honestly has he ever showed you his speed where you were like WOW? Has he EVER looked as fast or faster than Seattles Earl Thomas 4.43 vs Chris Clemons 4.4-flat

Also isn't obvious why Nolan is always getting those interference calls? and why S.Smith plays 50-yards off

no problem, that only means we should be badass in zone coverage. Slower players = taller and can jump higher which is great for zone.
