DAVIE – All Dolphins players were present and seemed to be participating fully in practice, including wide receiver Jabar Gaffney
and defensive tackle Tony McDaniel
, who both missed the Buffalo game with knee injuries. --Nolan Carroll
, who was called for four penalties for 56 yards in the Bills
game, was still in his starting spot. You wouldn’t expect he’d be benched. He’s been an upgrade from Richard Marshall
, and the alternatives (R.J. Stanford
, DeAndre Presley and Bryan McCann
) aren’t better.
--The Dolphins worked on recovering fumbles early in practice. It was kinda strange watching kicker Dan Carpenter
and the quarterbacks going to the ground to scoop up a bouncing football.
--One thing to watch this week will be the collection of tall cornerbacks. Miami’s Sean Smith
is 6-foot-3, Seattle’s Richard Sherman
is 6-3, and Seattle’s Brandon Browner
is 6-4. The advantage is they can get those long arms on wide receivers and control them at the line of scrimmage. And they have the height to matchup with today’s taller wide receivers. The old myth about tall corners not having the same agility as guys who are, say, 5-10 to six feet, is going out the window.
--Quarterback Ryan Tannehill
is still practicing with a brace and sleeve on his leg leg/knee.
