    College Coaching Changes

Joker Phillips is out at Kentucky
    Derrick Dooley fired from Tennessee
    Jeff Tedford out at Cal
Mike Price of UTEP is retiring
Arkansas looking for a coach as John L Smith only signed a 10 month contract
Gene Chizik likely out of Auburn

    More to come?

Tennessee is planning on going hard after Jon Gruden but doubt they get him. Charlie Strong is also mentioned. If all else fails, the Vols know that Duke Head Coach David Cutcliffe will take the job if offered.

Rumors are Cal's top 3 tagets are 49ers OC Greg Roman, LATech Head Coach Sonny Dykes, and San Jose St Head Coach Mike MacIntyre.

Arkansas is looking at at Vandy head coach James Franklin.

No real word on Kentucky, but Bobby Patrino is interested in the job, but the boosters hate him.

Auburn is linked with Lousiville OC Shawn Watson

UK has zero interest in Bobby and I doubt Bobby has any serious interest in them. It's really more of a leverage thing on his part to get a better job. UK boosters hate him because of his time here in Louisville (where he repeatedly called them "Blue Smurfs" and "those Slapdicks from Lexington" along with running scores up on their football team) and they don't want to pay their football coach the amount of money that Bobby would likely demand.

As far as Charlie to Knoxville, from what we've heard he's 3rd or 4th down their list and there's really no guarantee that he would even take the job if offered. He has a top 10 and potential BCS championship game caliber team coming back next season (we lose 12 seniors, only 3 of which play any significant reps) along with a probable Heisman candidate quarterback in Teddy Bridgewater. If we can get a big name team to play us in our 1 open OOC schedule spot next season, and if we go undefeated we could make it to BCS #2. That is worth staying one more year here. There are always job openings. The 'Ol Ball Coach down in Columbia SC has to retire at some point. Charlie may be looking at that job, I don't know.

At this point all we've heard are the same rumors that Shawn Watson is on Auburn's radar. We don't know where he is on their list however.
    Insert pithy saying here.

Auburn is also looking at the possibility of Gus Malzahn, whose had a great first season with Arkansas State

Kentuckey just saw a list of guys they have on their list
1.San Jose St HC Mike MacIntyre
    2.Utah State HC Gary Anderson
    3.LA Tech HC Sonny Dykes
    4.Cincy HC Butch Jones
    5.Texas A&M OC Kliff Kingsbury

Of those names, Kingsbury is the most likely.

Also, rumors are flying that if USC loses to Notre Dame, Lane Kiffin will be axed. He was not hired by Pat Haden, he brings a lot of baggage, has done stupid things, and his team has underachieved. Others have mentioned, the interest from Tennessee and USC were both due to him bringing his Dad and Coach O to the respective schools.

I would think Auburn would be hot on Gus Malzahn's trail. Its now obvious that he was the brain behind the operations down there instead of Chizik. Sometimes its the coordinators that make the team and not the head coach: see Hawkins, Dan, and Kragthorpe, Steve.

Idaho and Western Michigan are open as well. Idaho is a dead end job. Western Michigan wouldn't be a bad job to take

Tom O'Brien out of NC State. Dude burnt some bridges leaving Boston College saying that there was a ceiling on how good they could be but NC State could be great. Horrible coach in the ACC winning 1 away ACC game in 6 years. Running Russell Wilson out of town didn't help.

Boston College also releases coach Frank Spaziani. Spaz was a very good DC for a long time who was named HC for his loyalty to the school. Couldn't handle all the duties.

Danny Hope fired from Purdue. Personally never felt he should have been the head coach there. Had Joe Tiller not named him his replacement, he would have never been considered for the job. While Purdue doesn't have great talent, they should do better than what Hope did there.

Rumors are Tim Beckman and Ellis Johnson both could be fired after one year at their respective schools (Illinois and Southern Miss). Southern Miss had 10 wins last year with Larry Fedora and didn't win a game this year. If Johnson is fired, Southern Miss will contact former OC, and current North Carolina OC Blake Anderson to be head coach. Same story with Illinois, while not an overly talented team, they are better than the 2 win season they had under Beckman (who also rubbed a lot of people at the school the wrong way)

With U of L losing to UConn and now on a 2 game skid I think schools are going to cool on Charlie Strong and Shawn Watson. Some of Watson's play calling this season has been strange to say the least.

Colorado job is open. John Embree was a likeable guy, but was in way over his head as a head coach... especially at a BCS school. Colorado has been in a bad spot though due to money issues.

Purdue is gonna go hard after Northern Illinois coach Dave Doeren. Doeren knows the Big Ten will as he was Wisconsin DC from 2006-2010. Doeren is 22-4 as NIU coach.

Erik Ainge is all over Twitter saying that Cincy's Butch Jones to UK is a "done deal". I'll believe it when I see it.
