Detroit councilwoman to Obama: We voted for you, now bail us out.

The city of Detroit faces a major financial crisis and one member of city council thinks President Barack Obama should step in and help.

City Council member JoAnn Watson said Tuesday the citizens support of Obama in last month's election was enough reason for the president to bailout the struggling the city. (Click the video player to listen)

"Our people in an overwhelming way supported the re-election of this president and there ought to be a quid pro quo and you ought to exercise leadership on that," said Watson. "Of course, not just that, but why not?"

Nearly 75 percent of Wayne County voters pulled the lever for Obama in November.

"After the election of Jimmy Carter, the honorable Coleman Alexander Young, he went to Washington, D.C. He came home with some bacon," said Watson. "That's what you do."

Young served as Detroit's mayor for 20 years and served as vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1977 to 1981.

The White House has expressed no plans to bailout the cash-crunched city that some experts say could run out of money by the end of the year.

The federal government has bailed out cities in the past, however. In 1975, President Gerald
Ford extended more than $2 billion in credit to New York City to help it avoid a financial collapse.

Is there any cause and effect between the city being broke and overwhelmingly Democrat?

Are there any other counties that voted nearly 75% one way or the other? How are they doing financially by comparison?

Look at most of the struggling states and municipalities in the country and you will find something in common, they vote democrat.

Typical handout class. You can't find bigger losers if you wanted to. So fiscally irresponsible.

Exactly, because we all know those Southeastern states all have vibrant economies, whereas those Northeastern states are barely able to survive. :/

Read much? The northeast is strong because that's where the financial infrastructure is. I was talking about the state governments fiscal shape.

Top 10 worst run states in America per 24/7 Wall St. Based on many factors including debt per capita, % w/out healthcare, % under poverty, and % of unemployment.

Blue States: California, Illinois, Michigan, Rhode Island
Red States: Arizona, South Carolina, Kentucky, Louisiana
    Purple States: New Mexico, Nevada

So lets go back to your statement. "Look at most of the struggling states and municipalities in the country and you will find something in common, they vote democrat."

Well out of the 10 worst run states, 4 are red, 4 are blue, and 2 are neutral. That sure doesn't seem like most to me.

i concede that to you and probably should of said cities since that is where the thread started, these are the top 10 worst run cities in america. all of them (except st. louis) are in states that voted for obama. all the the cities are cities i would consider VERY blue.

it goes back to the arguement, if you divided the country up and put all the people who wanted liberal ideas in one half, and conservative people in the other half, where would you rather live? my answer, i would much rather live in the conservative half, i might have to deal with a couple of religous nutjobs, but its better than being panhandled every other minute.
