Excellent post, my friend. It is amazing to me that the vast majority of people advocating gun control have never shot a gun or at least have very little experience with them. Essentially, they are ignorant of firearms, scared of them, and have no purpose in their life for them thus they should be banned.
I grew up around guns, have shot since I was very small, have hunted all over North America, and was in the Army Airborne Artillery. Guns are just part of my life as is gun safety for me and my family. Not only can I defend my home but so can my wife and granddaughter that lives with us. We have no desire to hurt anyone but will not be made victims either. I take responsibility for my freedom and security...the police are just there to supplement my efforts.
Gun control has very little to do with guns and a whole lot to do with control. If you read the second amendment, it is quite clear that the founding fathers had every intention of Americans arming themselves to ensure that they could not be tyrannized. The founding fathers subjugated the federal government to the states and individual citizens. The monstrosity that we call a government today would disgust even the most liberal of the founding fathers. Nonetheless, this is the USA that we live in and the rules by which we must play.
