People try to give him credit for Tanny last year . .. . . does anyone really think JI had anything to do with that?
absolutely. he is the one with final say. he makes the ultimate decision. just like bill parcells did in 2008, 2009, and 2010. sorry, you can't say ireland had so much to do with the drafts when Parcells was in charge, then say he didn't have anything to do with a draft where he was in charge.

I believe that the draft went very fine last year and if you count the college free agents that made the 53 roster then it went great. Free agency was a injury disaster which is all hard to blame on Ireland. Marshall, Hicks and Gerard which were the big ticket free agent signings if you want to call them big ticket all ended on IR. Gerard was a gamble I admit but so was Brees and we saw how that ended, Hicks and Marshall had been playing up to the point so I will not hold his feet to the fire to much. Nanee was a disaster I will admit why Philbin kept him on the roster is beyond me though. It takes really big money to sign free agents from other teams and I personally hate to see us do it unless we are very close to being really good. I prefer us to pay our own and keep churning the college ranks like we did last year. So yes if Ireland can produce as well or better in the college draft this year compared to last then I trust the guy and I believe he will do it. What most of his naysayers miss is why would you not give the guy another chance if you were satisfied with last years draft. What has changed this year to make you feel that way? If you want to give Sherman and Philbin credit for last years draft hell they are still on staff and after just spending a few months with Ireland and having a sucessful draft it should be darn better this year than last after they have had a entire year to work together.

Agreed. They somehow also think that Philbin magically took over drafting from Ireland...

Philbin really didn't show anything special from what I saw last year. He was an upgrade from Morono...but that is about it. We still couldn't score consistently in the red zone. And I saw nothing magical on defense. Looked like the same old crap. I saw zero "innovation."

I dont think ireland and philben's fates should be intertwined. If we dont make playoffs Ireland should be gone Philben as long as he doesnt go like 4-12 deserves more time

Philbin is the closest thing we've had to Shula since Shula.

even though I disliked Johnson overall he did a a solid job. He never had a losing season as coach here and went to playoffs 3 out of 4 years, Philben in one season has not eclipsed this

Johnson also had Marino. And did almost zero to help him win.

Johnson was good for the D but poor for the O. Not a Shula by any means, imo.

Point taken though, that Johnson had three winning seasons.
