NY Times op ed: End The Constitution

"AS the nation teeters at the edge of fiscal chaos, observers are reaching the conclusion that the American system of government is broken. But almost no one blames the culprit: our insistence on obedience to the Constitution, with all its archaic, idiosyncratic and downright evil provisions. "

If we're not happy with the Constitution, we can always amend it. It isn't so permanent.

Those group of white, slave-owning rich men, that the article derides, were also some of the smartest men the Enlightenment produced. To say they didn't know what they were talking about because it was so long ago, is the same as saying the Algebra isn't useful because Newton and Descartes were from around the same period.

I don't know what country this guy has been living in when he says our woes are from "obedience to the Constitution". That pretty much ruined the rest of the piece for me.

As this country moves toward even more extreme versions of progressive socialism, the constitution will no longer be needed.
The government is not following it's own rules. Soon the populace will not follow their rulers.

Instead of mocking langer, maybe someone would care to offer an intelligent rebuttal? It has been known to happen on this forum from time to time

Any chance at an intelligent rebuttal was lost when he started talking about "progressive socialism". That's a Fox News/Limbaugh talking point, not intelligent discourse...
