Another solid CB could be on the open market, Chris Gamble

Chris Gamble - DB - Panthers

ESPN's Pat Yasinskas believes the Panthers will "almost have to cut" LCB Chris Gamble this offseason.

The reasoning? Carolina currently has $136 million committed toward the 2013 salary cap that is expected to be just over $120 million. Gamble carries a $10.9 million cap hit for 2013, and the team could save $7.9 million by slashing him from the payroll. The problem is that Gamble is easily the team's best corner, and there isn't a whole lot of solid depth behind him. Gamble, 30 in March, played in just four games in 2012 before landing on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.

if this is true, this makes a list of some pretty good CB's this offseason. There is no reason we cant upgrade our secondary this offseason. Here is the list of potential FA's:

    Chris Houston-UFA
    Brent Grimes-UFA
    Chris Gamble-UFA
    Tracy Porter-UFA
    Quentin Jammer-UFA
    Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie-UFA
    Derek Cox-UFA
    Aqib Talib-UFA
    E.J. Biggers-UFA
    Darius Butler-UFA
    Antoine Cason-UFA
    Cedric Griffin-UFA
    Keenan Lewis-UFA
    Rashean Mathis-UFA
    Marcus Trufant-UFA
    Cary Williams

Trufant is worth a look since he will come cheaper at 32, plus coming from the best defense in the league, can only help our CB situation. Tagging Smith and maybe drafting a guy seems like a better option though.

gamble would be a decent pickup at the right price (but you can say that for most) caught a lot of flack in carolina, but with him out you could tell a world of difference with munnerlynn being their #1

we can't sign gamble, beacause we need a good WR (jennings or wallace) and we don't have a place in salary cap for a another big salaries, draft a CB and keep smith !

trufants washed up...drc i wouldn't touch...i wouldn't touch any of those eagle vet corners...all they care about now is getting paid...lewis is interesting and probably pretty cheap no thanks on talib either...houston is washed up...if it's me and i'm spendng money on a free agent corner it's either lewis or cox and grimes...grimes is the one likely to get paid the most though...before he tore that acchilles he was terrific...betting on him bouncing back though can be dicey

i bet cox and lewis are the best return for the pay players...unless grimes plays like he did in 2011 again...
