Every veteran free agent they signed, with the exception of Richard Marshall, was signed to a one year deal. Which means that they would be free agents this year anyway if the team hadn't already cut them. Richard Marshall will go to training camp, and I expect him to make the 53 man roster.

Reggie Wayne was never really an option for this team for a few reasons. He was either going to stay in Indianapolis or follow Manning. The Wayne to Miami rumors were contingent on Manning coming here. Despite Wayne having another good season, where did a 33 year old(at the time, he is now 34) receiver fit into the long term plans?

Ireland had $11 million entering free agency last season, now he will have $45+ million this year. I expect he will be targeting true starters this season instead of one year contract gap fillers.
thats only your opinion of the reggie wayne situation, he never once said it was contingent so quit making stuff fit your agenda
When death smiles upon you, the Infantry man smiles back. WV says Im not a patriot and Jeff Ireland is a Boss so it must be true.

My agenda is facts, and there was no evidence that he was really willing to sign with the Dolphins. The one thing we do know is that he was on Miami radio last March talking about how great it would be to team up with Manning in Miami. But let's be honest, Wayne never had any intention to test the free agent market or leave Indianapolis. He re-signed with the Colts just a few hours after free agency started. I am sure if he was dying to sign with the Dolphins that he wouldn't have re-signed with the Colts 3-4 hours after free agency kicked off. Pretty obvious the ball was already in motion of him re-signing with the Colts before he ever hit the market.

whatever makes u sleep better at night. cant sign with anybody that doesnt contact u. he said he was very open to signing with miami and the manning stuff we all know was never a real factor

According to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora, the deal is worth a "max" of $17.5 million. It's perhaps the most shocking news of the day after Wayne appeared checked out of Indy for months. He had been generating surprisingly little public interest, however, and insisted Tuesday his future was not tied to that of his former quarterback Peyton Manning. A continual grouser about his contract in recent years, Wayne might be being overpaid for his twilight seasons, but it's likely worth it for a franchise that's jettisoned nearly all of its familiar faces in recent weeks. Presumed No. 1 pick Andrew Luck will now have at least one person to throw to in 2012.

More like they can't sign him when he has no real interest in leaving Indianapolis. Why did he re-sign with the worst team in the NFL at the time just hours after free agency started? If he wanted to go to Miami or a contender like the Patriots, Giants or Ravens, why didn't he at least wait 24 hours for a call? Are you telling me three hours into free agency is enough time for Wayne to give up on his "dream" to play for the Dolphins? Doubtful, he never was going to leave Indianapolis.

Dolphins may never had any interest in Wayne, but you don't know for certain what their interest level was. The quick actions by Wayne though speaks volumes of where his heart actually was. Again, I like to deal with facts and the truths right in front of me. I don't like to take speculation and run with it as 100% facts. I don't know for certain what level of interest the Dolphins had in Wayne or vice versa and neither do you. But actions tell a big part of the story.

teams already know their targets, his agent saw a soft market and took the contract. miAMI never mentioned as looking at wayne except on our board. never said it was his dream but his agent isnt stupid he knew which teams were looking at him

If your theory that Ireland didn't believe Ochostinko or Nanee were starting material on this roster is true then that would mean he did basically nothing to seriously upgrade the wr position. Not trying is worse than trying and failing.

As for Wayne, every Colts game I watched the announcers made a point to mention the Colts front office deserved all the credit in the world for being instrumental in keeping Wayne in Indianapolis, why would they mention that every single time if Wayne staying was such a certainty?

Again I don't know if the team contacted Wayne or not. Neither do YOU. Assuming one way or another is pure speculation and shouldn't be treated as fact. All we know is that Wayne re-signed with the Colts just a few hours into free agency. Seems to me he never really had any intention of leaving. Not every free agent signs day one, so it is impossible for the player or his agent to truly know what his market is. It may be something on day one of free agency but could be completely different on day two. Wayne never tested the market. Who is to say Miami or another team didn't offer Wayne a contract and the Colts just matched the price? Speculation, but no more than you thinking there was absolutely no contact.

everyone was shocked when wayne resigned with Indy for people on this board to act like it was a certain is disingenuous . alot is going on before free agents are signed. I mean do people really think that Justin Smiley's people didnt know Miami was after him before free agency started

The way free agency is covered we always know for most part but like I said you want it to fit your way of thinking that we had no chance to sign Wayne. If we had interest there are very few secrets much like how the whole Harbaugh thing came to light. We all know we never pursued wayne which in the beginning and end was a mistake but Ireland never makes mistakes with some on this board

I said they were brought in to COMPETE for starting jobs. They weren't just going to be handed the job. Cap space was limited in 2011 so low level free agents and the draft was the main route to add players to the team.

I honestly don't really care whether or not Wayne was contacted by the Dolphins or not. No one really knows the truth and it really doesn't matter at this point. I know the front office haters and Dolphin haters will continue to speculate on things that the facts will never be clear on, but it isn't going to matter. Ireland has money this year and I am excited for what the future holds. Go Dolphins!
