    Ireland press conference notes

Adam Beasley is tweeting it live right now... some notes:

    Start from the bottom

Pass-rushers: "You never have enough of them. Disrupting the passer is a key element" in a successful defense.
Ireland acknowldges he's a lightening rod in Miami: "Polarizing," is the word he used.
Devlin as backup: Anything's possible. Think he's done an outstanding job. Development has skyrocketed. I think Pat's capable of doing that.
Ireland: "We look forward to making some exciting news before too long."
"The message is, Joe and I have a clear vision on how we'll help this football team. This is a big offseason for us. We understand that."
How far the Dolphins are from the elite: There's a gap. We've got a long way to go. There's a five-game gap between first and second.
Ireland on Honey Badger: "At the end of the day, youre going to ask yourself if hes someone you want on your football team."
More Ireland on Egnew: I've got a high regard for him. He's going to have a good season this year.
Ireland on Egnew: Certainly wish he would have been out there more. Players develop in different stages.
2012 Rookie class: I feel very good about the whole class. I'm very optimistic about the draft class. 2011 class too.
Ireland: [Tannehill] is a young player. Our philosophy is to build the roster primarily through the draft. Young by design.
Ireland: I think this is the year that you've got to do something. We're looking for playmakers on offense. Free agency, trades on table.
Ireland: We're not looking to upgrade one primary area. We're looking to upgrade at a lot of areas.
Ireland: "There's a gap between 1 and 2 in our division. We've got to find guys that are scoring touchdowns. Disrupting passer on defense."
Ireland: Maybe looking for a more athletic offensive line type.

Very interesting comment on Jake Long:

    Adam Beasley ‏@AdamHBeasley
I asked Ireland if he considers Jake Long elite. His response: "I think Jake can play in this league."

Sounds like Devlin will be the backup, and Jake will be gone.

Possibly. But it most definitely isn't giving Long's agent any ammunition to take to negotiations. Rex did that with Revis and he had to pay him 100 million. Obviously, Ireland isn't as stupid as Rex...

On the draft class: "We're still assessing it. Some names on the junior class we weren't expecting to see there."
Ireland said he and Philbin are sharing a suite, talking football all week.
Glad to see philbin getting a lot of influence.

Good thing other teams don't value playmakers too - should leave more for us. Yes, that was sarcasm. Sounds like the brain trust has been closeted with some FinHeaven members. Don't really hear anything that hasn't been debated on here the last few months but still good news that they seem to be in agreement with the majority of "High information" posters here.

Jake is a great guy and player. He prob just doesnt fit in the end regarless of injuries. He would provide great compensation at draft time as would Smith since they are all starters. And that leaves approx. 15-20 mil in freedom while replacing them through the draft and guys we picked up late (Patterson, Mcmann, Stanford). They are looking towards replacing guys IMO. Prob looking to trade Incog if possible and probowl helps in that regard. That happens we are drafting an OL in first 3 rounds.

I think we resign Fasano, Clemmons, Bush, and Starks. All key guys in this system because aside from comments from management, they fill holes that enable us to get better at other key positions like CB, WR, DE.
