Nor would I ever judge a LT during a 6 game span, Martin got his ass kicked more than anyone on that line.
Ah, yes, I did misread the point about the tag. I apologize for that. As for the rest of the post, I was spot on. You are absolutely judging Martin as an LT over that time frame, which is ridiculous. He played fine, even well at times at LT. He has room for improvement, of course, but so does every rookie. It also helps that he's playing in his natural position again rather than RT. None of that changes the fact that there was little difference between how our offense performed with him vs with Jake Boselli, which is a good example of how overrated that position is. We just need a solid LT, not a great one. Martin has certainly shown he is can develop into that, if not more.

That being said, I agree that we should resign Boselli to a very team friendly deal, which is nowhere in the top ten, or even top 15 LTs in the league. He is clearly on the decline in his career and clearly injury prone. Either way, we're going to have to address RT in the draft. Luckily, that doesn't require a high round pick.

Second only to Joe Thomas in showing how overrated the left tackle position is. Make no mistake, he's certainly been a great player...but how much did that help the offense?

This case is turning into what I feared it would, a standoff. Fortunately for Miami all indications out of the Long camp is that he wants top 3 money and anyone with a shred of knowledge knows that is just asinine to had him considering the situation and injury history.

Now if Long really wants to be part of this ball club he needs to structure a deal that pays him what he deserves, the average NFL left tackle gets around 4 million, Jake is still above average but not in the top tier so a contract worth 6 to 7 million is fair add in some escalators to get Jake to 9 to 10 if he performs like he did in 2008 and that should be more than fair to all involved.

Sometimes it is hard to look into a mirror and see that you aren't the race horse you used to be.
