SAME OLD BS ESPN "Mel Kiper re-grades the 2012 draft"

    http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post...the-2012-draft

    Miami Dolphins (7-9)

Key picks: QB Ryan Tannehill, OT Jonathan Martin, DE Olivier Vernon, RB Lamar Miller

    Kiperís grade: B-

Thoughts: I thought this grade was low. Miami got a lot of production from its rookie class, and it was a major reason the Dolphins were in the wild-card hunt in the final month of the season. Tannehill threw for 3,294 yards and has a chance to be the long-term solution. Martin started all 16 games at both right tackle and left tackle, and Vernon flashed multiple times as a backup defensive end and special teamer. Even Miller rushed for 250 yards and averaged 4.9 yards per carry. Miller appears ready for an increased role next season.

For comparison, he gave them a "C" grade in April.

He forgot to mention that Jeff Ireland has a high regard for Michael Egnew

Our braintrust has great faith in the patchability of 26 year old venues, and Michael Egnew, who is a mere 23. We can throw hundreds of millions toward him every few years.

When talking about the past draft, I am not sure why some people always choose to immediately focus on Egnew. Tannehill and Martin are already starters. Miller contributed and might be a starter in 2013 and Vernon made an impact. Even Matthews and Randall contributed. Yet some only want to concentrate on the one who did not play to make a case that it was a "bad" draft. Egnew, the 4th pick of the Dolphins draft does not define the entire draft.

It was a good draft for the Dolphins, despite the early outlook on Egnew.

Its just one bullet in the ammo of the ireland haters... Its the easy thing to point out and the fastest way for them to say he screwed up somehow. Even though like you said the rest of the draft was pretty good and e have some starters and decent backups out of this draft that doesnt matter to them. Randall is decent and that shelby kid i thought was pretty good too. Thigpen the UDFA was also a great pick up but they dont want to point it out. Well hopefully Ireland gets some playmakers this Offseason and drafts a few more and he can get a few people pff his back.

Fair or unfair, I believe the obsession with Egnoodle is because he represents one half of what we got for Brandon Marshall. So I think people look at it as "we gave up pro bowl production for a guy who never got on the field". If Eggnoodle was just an ordinary 3rd round pick, yes there would be some chatter about how come he isn't playing but I don't believe it would be nearly as loud as it is due to the circumstances in which we selected him. Just my 2 cents.
