One person no one is mentioning as a replacement for Hartline is Danny Amendola. He's an FA and I think should be considered if the Dolphins miss out on the top 3 FA WRs. If he can be had along with either Bowe, Jennings, or Wallace, so much the better. I believe Amendola is a better WR than Hartline.

Amendola would be very ideal but only if we signed a vertical threat (Wallace).

But Danny IS a very good WR and in the right setting could be a very good option.

From reading his history, his injuries are a product of A) Playing with abandon and B) Coming back too soon from injury. If he can learn to protect himself (not Ted Ginn self preservation but smart), he might be good value at $2-$3 Million a year. Just make the contract incentive driven. And he's not just a slot receiver. Last year, I believe he played at all three WR positions before his injury. He's electric in open space and won't fall down after a bump from coverage.

He got busy maybe 3 times this year (and still only scored 1 TD). The rest of the games he was quiet as a mouse.

    In between the 20's he's cool.....but redzone ??? - Put man-to-man press coverage on Hartline and it's a wrap - he's done.

He's not sniffing the end zone when an average, NFL, 195LB, CB is in his grill. Please prove me wrong. I'll wait.
While I don't believe Hartline is an all-pro you can not discount his innate ability to get open. Using your logic he did nothing in the second half of the season. Here is his game logs:

    9 11/04 @ IND 8 107 13.4 35
    10 11/11 TEN 8 79 9.9 14
    11 11/15 @ BUF 4 49 12.3 17
    12 11/25 SEA 2 17 8.5 10
    13 12/02 NE 5 84 16.8 28
    14 12/09 @ SF 1 2 34 17.0
    15 12/16 JA1 5 77 15.4 37
    16 12/23 BUF 2 12 6.0 10
    17 12/30 @ NE 5 69 13.8 22

Again basing it off of your statement he completely struggled after the first few games which he did not. Did team struggle along with Hartline here and there......yes. I just don't get the unabashed negativity people have for some of our players. Hartline is an excellent #2 who fits this system extremely well. Knowing that he is not a number 1 will help in your understanding just how great he was last year in our system. We had no true #1, no vertical threat whatsoever and yet he was able to produce. No he shouldn't be paid like a #1 but we need to keep players within our system that fit.

I hear you - yes he is a decent player. Just don't want him at a huge number, that's all. And is it too much to ask for him to score a TD?

For all the talk about Hartline wanting 5-6 million we have to realize its relative to the current market. Remember when Jordy Nelson, who some compare Hartline to, will command even more when he becomes a FA. So it's not about does Hartline deserve more than Nelson. It's about what does the FA market of today pay today's FA's.
