Realistically: The secondary obviously needs to be rebuilt.
Realistically: The OL needs to be overhauled. Jake Long is as good as gone and Martin led the NFL in QB hurries last year. He is going to bust at OT if they leave him there.
Realistically: The DL is in need of improvement, it wasn't the bastion of strength some think it was. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/dl
Realistically: The offense needs serious improvement that won't be accomplished in a year.
Realistically: The Dolphins marquee FA's are going to be seeking outrageous amounts of money. There is going to be a lot of personnel turnover, way more than most fans are thinking.

FA's:
Reggie Bush....I love reggie but I seriously doubt he accepts the team friendly offer Philbin spoke of. He graded out really bad last year but I imagine there is still at least one team out there that will be willing to throw some money at him but it won't be the Dolphins. Miller looks good for increased snaps and I like Sherman to ask for Goodson to be acquired. I am also a believer in Jonas Gray's potential and I want to draft Miguel Maysonet as well.

Brian Hartline: I was one of the few in the world who had Hartline mocked to the fins and I was thrilled when we got him but he isn't elite and I doubt the Dolphins will give him the money he wants. I think Philbin will indeed go with Jennings and draft a few guys. Frankly I hope that they don't give in to any of the FA WR prospects when it comes contract time.
IMO, there are no elite FA WR prospects or elite draft prospects. It happens, it's reality.

Jake Long: Will be debated adnauseum until he signs somewhere but the early indicators are that the Dolphins have no intention whatsoever in giving him a nice contract, whereas the Chargers and maybe a couple others will. He is soooooooooo gone. Forget about him.

Randy Starks is going back to the Pro Bowl this weekend and he is as consistent as the Northern Star and as durable as Bret Favre. His going price is going to be wayyyyyy higher
than what most Dolphin fans are thinking. Starks is just plain good; but I'd rather spend the cap room on a couple younger guys and solidify the DL depth.

Anthony Fasano: I believe the Dolphins will make him a solid offer but I have a hunch that the Giants are going to lose Martellus Bennett in FA, and I think they will make Fasano an
offer and I predict the Jersey boy goes home. Could you blame him, really.....Eli Manning throwing...Knicks and Cruz drawing all the attention...
Fasano led the NFL in drop percentage last year....40 catches no drops, and he is consistently at the top in blocking. Somebody is going to pay him. I think Philbin wants to draft his guys. I think we lose Fasano as well.

Sean Smith: Sean Smith Sucks!! If they give him a bunch of money I'll puke.

Player Trades: My player trade for this offseason is Daniel Thomas and John Jerry to Atlanta for their 3rd. This pick is so very late it's not as good as it sounds. Rumor mill has Turner being done in Atlanta. Thomas might gel with Quiz Rogers. John and Peria Jerry are brothers, maybe they can inspire each other. I don't trade either of these guys because I don't like them. I trade Jerry because he doesn't fit the blocking system. Jerry actually grades out pretty good at pass blocking which would also please Atlanta as they found their success last year by becoming a pass heavy team; and Murdoch is done at center and Konz will be moving over leaving a gaping hole at RG. I trade Thomas because I see Miller getting more snaps,I like Jonas Gray,I see Sherman wanting Goodson, and I have a crush on Miguel Maysonet. Not enough room on the roster for all these guys especially if they keep Thigpen at RB.

FA acquisitions:
Greg Jennings........WR......I don't see any choice other than playing rookie's or signing cheaper veterans that you know won't really help. I will hate this contract. It may very well cost the Dolphins the ability to get Reshad Jones and Soliai locked up for the future. More reality.

Desmond Bryant......DT....Raiders swing tackle who started at midseason after Seymour went on IR. He played stellar. IMO, a rising star if there ever was one. He had his success playing 3-technique but 3-4 teams are said to love him as a 5-technique as well. He would give the Dolphins a lot of versatility in hybrid sets. Young and brilliant with high character.
Bryant went to Harvard on an academic scholarship after finishishing HS with a 4.2 GPA. He won't be cheap but I'd try to sign him to a forever deal.

Sammie Lee Hill.....DT....This would be a huge signing if we do lose Starks. Not just because Hill is good and graded better than Starks last year, but it would also give the team leverage in negotiating with Soliai in the fure and it would also give the Dolphins very solid depth and even more versatility with the line allowing Odrick to continue to play DE on specific downs.

Bryant McKinnie.....LT....Stop gap extraordinaire. McKinnie is slimmed down and playing well at 33. His last contract was 7 mil for 2 years. It would be nice to get him in that range. The Ravens aren't going to have a penny to bring him back even if they get Flacco to sign a friendly deal. They won't be any competition to sign him. We might get a bargain as long as he doesn't show up to camp weighing 400 pounds.

Antwaan Barnes....OLB/DE.....When healthy he may be one of the best situational pass rushers in the league(11 sacks in 2011). A special teams ace as well. He could provide a legitimate replacement for Wake's speed rushing if there is an injury. He runs the 40 in 4.4 something, guy is fast

Chris Gamble......CB.......Gamble is due a ton of money and coming off shoulder surgery and will be 30 in March. The Panthers are in deep deep cap hell. Rotoworld says he release is a forgone conclusion. Gamble is one of the best cover corners in the NFL and would provide perfect veteran leadership for a young secondary. I'd hope for an incentive laden contract for no more than 4 years.

Keenan Lewis.....CB......Darkhorse FA. I am shocked this guy isn't topping the list of elite corners. He killed it last year. The Steelers had the #1 pass defense almost all year in 2012 and Ike Taylor had a bad year and Polomalu was injured most of the time. Teams were targeting Lewis all year and he just kept coming up stone solid. This is the quintessential example of the kind of FA signing you want to make. A young up and comer worthy of the contract he will get. There is enormous value here. He tops my wish list.

Mike Goodson....RB.....A guy who has always played behind elite RB's in Carolina and behind McFadden last year. He averaged 6.3 yds per carry last year. He has 4.4 speed and is an excellent receiver. He played for Sherman at A&M. If he learns to take care of the football he could become an excellent 3rd down back. He should be cheap to sign.

Brian McCann.....CB....This kid played well. Should be easy to bring back on the cheap.

Estimated 2013 accumulated cap number for these FA signings is 38 mil. With 7 mil for draft picks there should be a couple mil left to sign guys off the wire or their couches, but long
term deals for Jones and Soliai probably can't happen if the Dolphins sign Jennings.

Draft: I'm proposing two draft day trades. Trade down from the #12 pick to the #22 pick with the Rams and send them Spitler and Egnew in the deal. Rams have limited cap and Spitler is decent depth at LB, which is a position of need for them. Spitler actually backed up Laurenitus at Ohio state. Rams are expected to be looking for TE's as well although Kendricks is the future. This trade allows the Rams to get both their stud OG and their stud DT in the 1st round as they have the #16 pick as well. Probably Chance Warmak and Jonathan Hankins. Dolphins get a mid 2nd,,7th and don't have to pay their 1st round pick quite as much.

I also propose the Dolphins trade down from the Indy 2nd to the beginning of the 3rd and add a 4th and 6th.

This draft scenario assumes that Jeff Ireland finally realizes that when it comes to scouting he his batshet crazy and he just does whatever Philbin tells him to.

Draft:
First round #22.......Zach Ertz..................TE....Playmaker.....I'm guessing this is Philbin's guy.
2nd........................Phillip Thomas............S......Playmaker supreme.....8 int's and 4 FF's last year and looking good in senior bowl practices
2nd........................Desmond Truphant....CB.......Needs to start at nickel
3rd........................Steadman Bailey........WR.......Frankly I think you could take the top 10 WR's and throw them names in a hat and have just as much success.
3rd........................Dion Sims..................TE........Like having another OT who can run routes and catch everything. My favorite TE in this class.
3rd........................Travis Long............OLB/DE....He lined up all over the place last year. Really bright 4yr starter I think would surpass Trusnik and be the first LB to fill in. If Dansby went down I think Burnett or Misi would play the Mike and I'd expect Long to play either OLB positions.
3rd........................Marquis Goodwin.......WR......A reach....Think again, he is looking good at the senior bowl practices and the olympic dream is over, track is over, it's all football now baby!
4th.......................Reid Fragel.............OT......What a story on this kid. Do a search. Converted TE will be really raw. A phenomenal physical specimen and mean. I love him. You might be a little mean too if your a football player named fragel(fragile)
4th......................Mike Catapano..........DE.........Princeton??????? Super sleeper candidate, although kickin major ass at the Shrine game isn't very sleepy.
5th......................Miguel Maysonet.......RB..........Another kid moving up boards. The next Arian Foster??? Maybe not but worth a 5th IMO
6th......................Cooper Taylor...........SS..........Big kid who impressed at the Shrine. May have to move to LB but they say he looked fluid. 6'4" 230
7th......................Melvin White.............DB..........Might go a lot higher if he performs well in workouts. I've seen him his as high as a 4th rounder.
7th......................Marquies Gray..........WR/QB....Practice squad
FA......................Colby Cameron..........QB..........Practice squad
FA......................Josh Kline..................OG..........Practice squad
