I think we can afford 2 big names (Wallace Bowe Jennings) and draft a stud. Sorry Brian good luck getting that $$ anywhere else

How about let's use are brains!

Assuming he or his agent is the source of this information then they are going to do what is called "negotiating".

It starts with both sides putting out a number that they don't actually expect will be the final result.

In this case, if Hartline actually expects 4-5 million, you would expect him to put out there that he wants about 6 milllion.

Similarly, the dolphins initial offer will probably be about 3 million.

If there is serious mutual interest then they will meet in the middle.

Hartline is a top 16 #2 WR. He is worth about 5 mil per season. He will get if from someone if not the Dolphins.

Hartline had his best numbers EVER....and this is probably the only time he's ever been in a position of strength. They are probing the market...he may be back if the offers are less and the Dolphins can get close. I don't
have a problem with him "asking for a raise" ! We'll give him one, how much is the "answer to the question" we are all looking for.

Everyone forgets how negotiating works. He's not going to say his real number, because the Dolphins front office would still low ball him.

If he came out and said "I will sign for 25/5 contract" which would be fair. IReland would still counter with 20/5 or something similar. His agent and Brian know they will have to negotiate a more realistic number.

    In life there's always

My number (For buying a car, a house, a TV, a boat, a salary, etc)

Their number (for all of the above)

    and then you have

    Reality. Where most people land.

actually you guys got that mixed up...he's throwing out a # off last years free agent signing of similar market value with the idea of what it will take for his client not to test free agency and resign...pretty much tells you if miami tries to come with anything less than $6 mil per he's hitting the market...

of which i say let him test...

I think that is a fair deal based on the market.

No other team will pay him 6mil. Nobody. He had one TD. One. The year Laurent Robinson got paid, he had 11 TD's.

$3mil a year. That's it. I don't care if he goes somewhere else. We will never be a Super Bowl team if we overpay for players during the rebuilding phase. Draft a replacement. We might get lucky and draft a stud who is actually worth $8 mil a year and catches 9 TD's every season. No problem paying that stud that money.

I got a big problem paying Hartline big money.

ha ha...he would already have signed if he was willing to take $3 mil per...that's less than the low ball offer we made in season guaranteed...

Fair deal based on market? Wouldn't a extra 1-2 million a year land us Jennings? Good riddance Hartline.
