Breaking The Dolphins plan to run the read-option in 2013.

    http://tracking.si.com/2013/02/13/mi...ll-read-option

Tannehill has the athleticism needed for the scheme to work. He played wide receiver for the first two years at Texas A&M and could be a threat running. But he doesnít have the experience running the ball that others have and may not be the ideal fit. During his last year at Texas A&M, Tannehill ran 58 times for 306 yards. Griffin III ran 179 times for 699 yards and Kaepernick ran 173 times for 1,206 yards in their final seasons in college.
Tannehill, the eighth pick in last yearís draft, started all 16 games as a rookie. He completed 58 percent of his passes and threw for 3,294 yards. He also tossed 12 touchdowns (versus 13 interceptions). He ran 49 times.
The Dolphins ranked 27th in total offense last season.
Thought's on this? Tannehill hs the athleticism to make it work. How does this effect us in the draft/free agency?

There was several moments this season where Tannehill had big lanes to run but didnt. He was a WR so he does have the athletism to do it. But much increased chance of injuries. I don't know how I fully feel about us hoping on this new running QB bandwagon.

I don't like the QB running the ball as a designed play. Griffin is learning that NFL defenses are faster and hit harder. If he is unable to adapt from running at the first hint of pressure to simply moving up into the pocket or stepping away from pressure, he wont last long. Read option in the NFL is a recipe for disaster.

Every team in the NFL except for the Broncos and Pats will be running some form of the read option next year.

Tannehil injured his knee and was wearing a knee brace for about a third of the season. They couldn't run him too much even if they wanted to for many games.

I'm all for it, but I don't think it's as much a strong point for Tannehill as people would think based on his pure speed or history at WR.

I'm a believer in minimizing the contact to your quarterback at all costs.

Best case scenario for me with Tannehill is using him in roll outs and having the ability to tuck it and run when the pocket breaks down and slide.....

He's your franchise, keep him upright. Once the league catches up to the spread option, and they will to some extent... the risk will far outweigh the reward.

The source of this rumor is a fantasy football writer's tweet - you know, someone with no access to a GM or coaching staff. He's not even a journalist, he just analyzes stats for fantasy football, and now we are taking him for a source on leaked Dolphins' gameplans for 2013. And this fantasy football analyst didn't even consider that Sherman, Philbin, and Tannehill haven't even run a read option.

Flacco doesn't run read option. E. Manning doesn't run read option. Rodgers doesn't run read option. Brees doesn't, P. Manning doesn't. Brady doesn't. Ryan doesn't. Why should Tannehill?

Last thing I want is to have Tannehill go down. No thanks.

Hope we don't. It's a gimmick offense, will be figured out soon enough and will shorten the life span of our QB.
