(rumor) Packers Franchising Jennings for Sign & Trade Deal; Trade partner?

If the Packers do tag Jennings by the March 5 deadline, it would give them a week to shop the stylish wide receiver and possibly consummate a sign-and-trade deal with another team.
Itís what they did in 2008 with defensive tackle Corey Williams, who was given the franchise tag Feb. 29 and then dealt to the Cleveland Browns three days later for a second-round draft choice. Maybe the Packers already have a suitor interested in acquiring Jennings. However, the entire league understands that Green Bay has a tight cap situation, so getting something for Jennings would be difficult since teams could just call the Packersí bluff and sign him without compensation, assuming the tag would be rescinded at the 11th hour.

same thing was said about Flynn last year, they can't afford the risk of having to keep him just like last year they couldn't with Flynn.

If the Packers attempt to tag and trade they run the risk of it blowing up in their face. The franchise tag is $10.4 million for a WR and the Packers have somewhere between $15-20 million in spae. They have the room to do it, but if they do it and can't trade him, they won't have wiggle room to do much else. If their cap number is closer to $15 million they would likely have to make some cuts just to sign their draft picks.

This was the same deal with Matt Flynn last year, they could have tried to tag him and trade him, but the risk outweighed the reward. I would be surprised if they put the tag on Jennings.

Technically, it isn't. But it's like tampering, everybody does it and it's very hard to prove. All you need to do is put in about a week's worth of effort in negotiating a contract for show. Then you can trade away.
