Anyone own a blu ray player and is it worth buying one?

I have been debating on and on about buying one. I don't know much about them but I am told the picture looks amazing. Better then watching a dvd movie. Is this true and is it worth buying a blu ray player. I was told by a bestbuy employee I need to buy these hd wires as well to put form the blu ray player to the back of the tv. All help is welcomed.

ive had one for 5 years in my ps3... I think I own 3 movies. Its good and all but unless your really into picture quality nitty gritty I personally wouldnt go out of my way to get one

You need an hdmi cabel but these are very cheap online.

I have a ps3/blu ray too. I rent a lot of redbox movies and dvds suit me just fine vs blu rays. I will rent blu rays if it's a good cgi movie but for the most part the picture isnt that much of a difference to warrant a separate player. Now if you are into all the bonus features that blu rays provide then it might be good for you.

I just recently got to the point where I am starting to prefer blu-ray over DVDs. But that is only because they have come down in price, and they usually come with a DVD anymore. Especially if you can catch them the week they come out.
But I have always said that you can get the same quality out of a DVD with the proper set up. Blu-ray in my opinion are best utilizes for video games because of their large storage capability.

Yeah. They really aren't very expensive anymore (you can get a pretty good one for around $80) and they play DVDs as well, so you don't need to replace your whole DVD collection. In fact, I wouldn't recommend replacing your DVDs unless it's a newer, special effects heavy movie (i.e. The Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, etc). You definitely want an HDMI cable to hook it up, but those can be had pretty cheaply as well.

My parent still have one of those. But they are going to upgrade to a blu-ray player soon because the DVD portion only plays movies in black and white for some reason.

Forgive my spelling. This was sent from my phone.

Bro I have a Panasonic that was easy to hook up and yes you will need an HDMI cord depending on how far you have to go will dictate the length that you need. I watch concerts with it in the garage when I just need to relax to music. For me I can see and hear the quality difference. I have picked up several blu ray discs that I had on DVD. I really enjoy it. Best of luck with your decision.

Thanks to Like2God for the great Avatar/Sig!
