The above are the franchise tag costs for this year, which agents use in salary negotiations. It shows the value NFL teams put on positions, which is very important in any draft strategy. Let's take a look at how this year's draft may impact next years team, players, and cap.

TE and S are the lowest on the tag pole. So, if Keller or Jones has a great year, the tag option would be very affordable.

Not so on a CB if Grimes comes back to Pro Bowl form. He wold cost a bunch, and VG reason to draft a CB or two, as many here have said.

Then, there is the OL, where there are bargains as we have seen, and in the medium range cap wise for most teams.

Moving on to our DL. Starks and Soliai will cost around $15M this year, which is crazy for two DT's (one a part timer) but, does work this year. NO WAY it will next year. IF we take a DE and DT able to start next year, Odrick moves inside, and we save around $12M. This has to be done.

Finally, at WR, I'm good with what we have, and they are under contract for a few years. I would wait until next year to add one in the draft, unless it is a value mid to late round pick.

My view on Dollars and Sense.

The Dolphins can afford to be generous at other positions while the QB is still being paid like a punter.

The cornerback pay scale is going to drop drastically. It has begun this offseason by what you see CBs getting paid. Even with a Nnamdi available and a Revis via trade and/or Jets unwilling to re-up him longer. With the deck stacked against DBs via the rules, teams have begun to realize it just isn't worth it to pay a corner $8, 9, 10+ million a year anymore no matter how good they may be, because ultimately they are handcuffed by the rules.

True story, and something we will have to deal with for another 3 years.
