A Very Simple Look at An Albert Trade

I know that the Albert potential trade has had a number of threads, posts, and opinions. I believe this is a little different, and worth a new thread. If posters disagree, I will delete it.

For the moment, let's leave the money aspect to Ireland and Dawn to worry about, as there are MANY fans who do not fully understand the cap, and how contracts work. I recall a happier and simpler time when no one had to care.

Supposedly, Albert will cost us a #54 pick. He is a good to VG LT which we need. He is a proven player who is 28, and could be the LT answer for the next 5 years in keeping our franchise (aka Tannehill) on his feet.

We could trade up for Johnson, an athletic young LT with a very high ceiling to be something special. This would cost the #12 pick, the #54 pick, and likely more.

So, who here would trade a proven LT (in Albert) and our top pick (pass rusher, Eifert, potential Pro Bowl OG or DT) for Johnson's potential to be special?

When you put it like that, which is the way it is, anyone making that trade?

I'd take the 2 players over moving up for one IN THIS CASE, since the lack of truly elite talent in this draft. But lol this isn't some new revolutionary idea, such ideas were talked about in the other thread(s).

I dont really like the idea of getting Albert, but it is better than wasting 2 picks on a tackle who will be at best a slight increase in pass protection and only save $2million per year.

I think you look at the trade more if the demand of second goes to a third and the team can agree on long term deal. The upside is there is no possible camp hold out which could happen with a high draft pick and they miss a lot of very valuable camp.

Thanks to Like2God for the great Avatar/Sig!

I agree phoenyx, I think Albert is good, but not like the Top 5 LT or whatever some think. I'd also rather gamble on a top prospect falling to us in rd 1. If not, no biggie, take Tyler Eifert. I think Dee Milliner is the only person I'd trade up for, and even he isn't worth the ransom some teams would likely want

*I think to trade up for a CB, you better be sure he is going to be an eventual star. Revis, Patrick Peterson, etc.. I'm not sure if Dee is that sort of player. If he is though, I'd be all for taking him

You forgot to add to your equation the cost it will take to sign Albert to the 5 years you mentioned
versus a rookie contract...There will be a considerable difference...

Heck, Luck at #1 last year has
a contract for $22 million while Albert has a franchise tag of almost $10 million just for this up coming season

If we trade up to #6 if a tackle is available we should see a contract of $16 million over the next 4 years

By that logic, let's not consider the draft picks either. Or the back injury. Or his age. Or any of the negatives about the trade. Now it looks fantastic as it costs us nothing and has zero risk!
