I think this is way more of speculation than it is actual fact. Like I said before i'll believe it when I see it.

Syl Williams is my no.3 DT and always has been. He's also my personal fav of the class.

Does Ireland like him enough to take him at 12? Is there a chance he slides to #42? If neither is likely, I wonder if Ireland is looking at options in the event he chooses to trade down?

Williams does not get to 42. It would be 12 I would think. I thought Williams was going early 20's, but I think there is a run on DT's from 10-20. The theme of the draft will be offensive and defensive tackles.

If Star is available at 12 (which is a possibility), I think Ireland will take him because of they are probably going to loose either Soliai or Starks next year. If he does this a trade for Albert becomes more of a certainty and CB with our remaining 2nd pick. What are thoughts on Star at 12?

Well when you look at the fundamentally sound guys on the team, maybe not, but when you look at his roster churn, many of them are speed guys. The periphery of the roster is a lot of speed guys. We consider guys like Roberto Wallace, Les Brown, Tymms, Armon Binns, Anthony Armstrong, Clyde Gates, Michael Egnew, etc. It's a parade of bad football players who only get a second, third, and umpteenth chance because of speed. Usually if I haven't heard of a DB or WR and we give them a tryout, I assume it's because they have speed. Our DB's tend to be speed guys too, like Clemons, Carroll, Wilson, and the departed duo of Davis and Smith. Lately he's also gone for speed at RB with guys like Reggie Bush and Lamar Miller. Even the Wheeler and Ellerbe moves increased our team speed. So I guess it doesn't really surprise me when we're projected to like a speed guy at WR, DB, RB or LB.
"I want guys who want to make an impact on and off the field. Good human beings. Guys who want to get better. Guys who want to improve. They want to be great, want to win. Those types of guys we can work with every day." --Joe Philbin

Like him or not there's no denying that Ireland turns over every stone. One of the things I like most about him is that he finds gems at lesser scouted schools and he's not afraid to pull the trigger on guys from those schools. Could this be another lesser known guy who becomes a good player? Will we snag him and watch him develop before our own eyes? Dunno, but this is an exciting week!
