GM A Basis for Reshad Jones extention/contract

Just saw online that Kam Chancellor from Seattle got his contract extention..
The Seahawks put some of that flexibility to use Monday, agreeing to a four-year $28 million contract extension with safety Kam Chancellor, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. The deal includes $17 million guaranteed, and locks him up through the 2017 season.
This should give us a good basis for Reshad Jones' contract/extention. Definitely a similar player, probably more highly regarded among most NFL fans, We may be able to get Jones locked up for a similar contract or hopefully a little cheaper if we do it now before he has (potentially) ((knock on wood)) another monster season.

I think Jones gets a littl over-hyped among Dolphin fans. Let's see some sustained success before handing out that kinda money.

I agree, but it's not necessarily unwarranted. Jones has shown flashes the entire time he's been here, we've watched him develop, and put together a really nice 2012 season. We would all like to see that continue before handing out money I'm sure. . but I like investing in players, especially guys that show improvement. It can only bring positive views on the organization. A guy like jones getting a good extention says, "We can pick our own, develop them, and reward them with a contract." I want an FO that has faith in their players. I also like the idea of getting a player on a fair contract before they boom into a top FA and we lose them.

William Moore of the Falcons got 5 yrs 32 million which is very similar to what Chancellor got. Jones probably will get a contract similar to that

a 5 year contract would put jones at 30 to hit the market again. I more so see him getting a 3, maybe 4 year extention this summer or next

That's great clarity of thought. Why should the trend line keep moving in the same direction, instead of leveling off? The lower you start the less likely the consensus was absurdly wrong, and you end up a mega star. That's why there's one Brady example at quarterback, and not dozens. Hand out large contracts to 7th rounders like Fitzpatrick and you deserve to be burned.

We play a more representative sample of quarterbacks next season.

I would go for a deal like that. Chancellor is a little bit different of a player though and he kind of plays a 4th linebacker spot.
