Could of had him in the 7th. Whatever its not like I was in love with anyone on the board, but I think Ellington will be better then Gillestie and a guy like Rambo would of been nice secondary help.

Sturgis is a lot cheaper than Carpenter. He'll get the job on that alone unless he's really really bad in camp which is doubtful. Carpenter his probably packing his bags as we speak.

This is definite. We don't pick a top kicker and not use him.

Carp and his inflated salary are out.
I wouldn't be opposed to that, especially if we save money.

Carp is toast. I was stunned that they didn't bring in competition right away after he blew that second big kick early in the season. I guess they just didn't think there was anyone else out there.

This sig in memory of 'Crazylegs' Elroy Hirsch. Go. Packers.

Highly accurate kicker who peaked at 86% (24/28) as a senior. Has a quick three-step approach and a strong follow-through. Plenty of leg strength for NFL kickoffs. Was 2 for 2 with a long of 48 yards in the East-West Shrine Game. He's shown toughness as a defender when serving as the last line of defense on kick returns, recording six solo tackles.

    Just win Phin baby!

Like the pick. Our kicking suck at times last year.

I knew this was a possibility. Sturgis has plenty of hype but there are also some issues. He's a 3-step kicker who doesn't get nearly the initial height of Carpenter. His leg is not as naturally strong on kickoffs, although that can be hidden now at the 35.

I would have preferred to persuade Carpenter to lower his salary. Sturgis will likely be a fine pro in the long run but there could be some growing pains. He's exactly the opposite of Carpenter in many respects. Quite emotional, which is not always ideal in a kicker.
