    No we couldn't. He would have been picked in the fifth by another team. Buffalo took Hopkins. If you want a great kicker you need to act decisively. With an accurate kicker we would have won 3 games last year.

    Agreed, they essentially replaced Carpenter by making this pick. A 5th round pick is considered a late rounder, but at a position like kicker, punter or even long snapper, these guys are going to win the job. When the Dolphins drafted Fields in the 7th round of the 2007 draft, he was handed the punting job. Now, they might try to dress it up as a competition and take Carpenter to camp and let them "compete", but unless Sturgis breaks his leg or is just plain horrible(doubtful), Sturgis is winning the job.

    He's not the best kicker in the draft. The best kicker is the Kicker/Punter, Patrick Murray, from Fordham.
